cannonball-addict
Ray Drummond the bassist, like many other first-call rhythm section cats is on so many records and CDs. Rather than start a poll based on the little which I DO have, I thought I would start a thread with recommendations of stuff he led or stuff we're he sounds particularly good. Look forward to your responses..... Edited December 15, 2004 by cannonball-addict
relyles
Great bass sound. I have heard him live on several occassions with David Murray and always enjoyed the experience. In addition to at least one recording under Murray's leadership, Ming's Samba I would recommend Drummond's Arabesque recording, Vignettes, which features some great playing by Gary Bartz and Chris Potter. JohnS
I agree, his Arabesque recordings are all very good and worthy addition to a collection.
Dan Gould
AMG says Drummond is the leader, I always thought the three were co-leaders, actually. But no matter-its highly recommended if you can find it.
marcello
Ray(Bulldog) Drummond sounds great ,as always, on Joe Locke's "Beauty Burning"( Sirocco) and has a origional song by him on it called "I-95".
randyhersom
Ted Curson's The Trio! Drummond and Haynes are absolutely brilliant in the rarely heard trumpet-bass-drums format. Three of the five tracks were rerelased on a :Ted Curson-Dizzy Reece" compilation
Alfred
I enjoy both "One on one" duo sessions together with Bill Mays on dmp.
tooter
So many to choose from - this guy gets around! But I've always liked the album "Alter Ego" by James Williams with Billy Pierce, Bill Easley, Ray Drummond and Tony Reedus. Also some Brecon Jazz Festival 1995 material with Kenny Barron and Ben Riley. Edited December 19, 2004 by tooter
