vajerzy Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 I've recently been selling some Mosaics and other box sets on Ebay and in all but a few instances, the buyers were from Europe. I've sold sets to people in Portugal, Spain, Germany, France and Italy. I'm glad that these people can buy the Mosaics and payment and shipping hasn't been a problem (so far!) except for one guy from Italy who didn't know Paypal- but that is straightened out. They're happy with their purchase and I'm happy to sell to them. Anyway- I want to get people's comments on why I'm seeing an increase in purchasers from Europe. My idea is because the Euro is strong against the USD and US goods are cheaper. Anyone else have ideas? Mike Quote
J.A.W. Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 (edited) Mosaic's high international shipping rates could be a problem for European buyers, at least they are for me. Puchasing reasonably priced Mosaics from board members who are charging much less shipping is a lot more attractive. Edited February 9, 2005 by J.A.W. Quote

WD45 Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 In my last round of eBay LP auctions, almost all were sold to European bidders. My thoughts were the favorable exchange rate makes these items cheaper. [in effect.] That exchange rate is a bummer when I was buying John Martyn CDs in London and Edinburgh... Quote
Pete B Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 I've noticed the same thing. A weak dollar makes for strong overseas sales. Quote
Dmitry Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 How do you go about shipping these boxes to Europe, price-wise and mode-wise? Quote
vajerzy Posted February 10, 2005 Author Report Posted February 10, 2005 Dmitry- I bubblewrap them twice, then cut strips of bubble wrap to be placed on the corners, then I get heavy duty brown paper and wrap it like a gift, then do it again. I take heavy clear tape and wrap the corners and sides. I'll make labels for addresses and place clear tape over them. Very well protected! Mailing of the sets range around $19.00-$21.00 airmail parcel post, average of 7 days. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 Well, I know the strong Euro/week dollar thing sure put a stop to my buying of stuff from Europe, so it makes sense to me... Quote
Stefan Wood Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 It is definitely the weak dollar. Most of my ebay sellings go straight to Europe or Japan. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 A couple of years ago it was about £1 = $1.4. Now it is about £1 = $1.9. The Mosaic buck goes a heck of a lot further this year.. Quote
