There are those appearance with vocalists: Babs Gonzales and Bill Henderson. Sometimes not issued under Smith's name.

There is plenty of confusion in discographies about which Jimmy (or Jimmie) Smith is present (mostly it's obvious based on instrument). At least some of these feature organist Jimmy Smith as a sideman. I'd like to hear the others confirmed or refuted - esp. those not on organ.

King Curtis: Get Ready

Quincy Jones: Smackwater Jack

Illinois Jacquet's Birthday Party (piano)

Kenny Burrell: Ellington Is Forever v. 1 & 2

Lenny White: Venusian Summer

Robbie Krieger & Friends

Cornell Dupree: Shadow Dancing (electric piano)

Jon Hendricks: Love (piano)

Toshihiko Kankawa: Quarter Run

Stanley Turrentine: Straight Ahead

Dee Dee Bridgewater: Love And Peace

Mike

I had both of Kenny Burrell's Ellington doubles, and Jimmy Smith plays organ on a few cuts. The info in Bruyninckx on these is correct.

Jon Hendricks: Love (piano)

I have this LP, and the liner indeed says "Jimmy Smith - piano" on two tracks: Good Ol' Lady & The Swinging Groove Merchant. Recorded at P-D Recorders, Hollywood, August 1981. The other tracks were recorded at other locations and dates with different personnel. You want more details?

Jimmy is listed as in the ensemble on the Audio Fidelity Quincy Jones Smakwater Jack cd, but has no solos.

He is on organ on one track,Marylin Monroe, on the Robbie Krieger lp, which i own.

He is on organ on four of the six tracks on Turrentine's Straight Ahead lp which i also have.

Mike, the Jimmy Smith on the King Curtis and Cornell Dupree dates isn't the same Jimmy Smith.

The "alternate" Jimmy Smith is from Brooklyn and has played quite a bit with the guys associated with King Curtis, Cornell Dupree, Gordon Edwards, Chuck Rainey, etc.

I last saw him play about 3 years ago with Gordon Edwards and Cornell Dupree at a "Stuff" reincarnation.

Rest of the players on the Hendicks cuts that "Jimmy Smith" are on are Jerome Richardson, Sweets Edison, John Williams, & Smitty Smith (the Hendricks band's regular drummer of the time, saw them live, and no, the piano player wasn't named Jimmy Smith); recorded in Hollywood, August, 1981. For that time and that place, and in that company, the odds of it being THE Jimmy Smith seem pretty good.

OTOH, I've got that album, and there's no "Appears through the courtesy of..." thing. But on the OTHER other hand, Smith was w/o a deal in 1981, right? So....
