ghost of miles Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Hey all, I'm taping a Night Lights program devoted to Mingus' spoken-word collaborations (it will also include Mingus' "Freedom" piece, which CM read himself). I've got "Scenes From the City" with Melvin Stewart, "The Clown" with Jean Shepherd, and the half-LP with Langston Hughes... am I missing or overlooking anything? Quote

Also, an alternative version Scenes in the City was issued on the recent Tijuana Moods reissue. Cumbia and Jazz Fusion has a spoken word interlude. I also recollect there being a spoken word piece on Music Written For Monterey 1965. Quote
Joe Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Do the spoken-word bits from the Hal Wilner WEIRD NIGHTMARE project count? Quote
sidewinder Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 There's also 'The Chill of Death' from 'Let My Children Hear Music' but I guess that one was a spoken word collaboration with himself. Does 'Passions of Man' count? Quote
Late Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 I also recollect there being a spoken word piece on Music Written For Monterey 1965. That's a good one. I'm glad that Sue Mingus has reissued that concert, along with the UCLA concert. GOSH! Quote
JSngry Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 The spoken intros from GREAT CONCERT are worth the price of admission themselves. Put me down as a "Chill Of Death" kinda guy, too. Quote
ghost of miles Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 The spoken intros from GREAT CONCERT are worth the price of admission themselves. Put me down as a "Chill Of Death" kinda guy, too. We have LET MY CHILDREN HEAR MUSIC over at the station (sadly a title that I have yet to pick up for myself), so I'm adding "Chill of Death" to the mix. Thanks much, as always, for the recs. Quote
