JoeG has a fancier model that absolutely sings. Also interested to see how the "Plekpro" setup on the frets works. Guess they have some computerized machine that dresses and levels the frets... Will certainly report back in. Quote
7/4 Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 Give a guitar the Plek treatment sounds magical although I've never played one. It's supposed to be the most amazing set up. dB Quote

It's supposed to be the most amazing set up. dB I am thinking about sending one of my strats in for service. I spoke with Abe a while back and he was quite excited about this machine. As first I was skeptical, but watching that youtube video has intrigued me further, for sure. Quote

Shawn Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Is there a way to find out what year a specific Gibson was produced by the serial number? Quote
wulfman Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 (edited) Try the Gibson Site for starters. It seems to be pretty detailed. While I am in the guitar corner I might as well add a picture of the Japanese Epiphone 61' SG I got last week in Tokyo at a New Year's sale which is the Japanese version of Boxing Day specials. It has a lacquer finish and the Gibson-style headstock with original style tuning pegs. The guitar is super light but with the mahogany body has great sustain. Shawn Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 That is a BEAUTIFUL guitar!!!!! Thanks for the link, I'll give it a shot. Quote

7/4 Posted January 13, 2009 Author Report Posted January 13, 2009 That's one darn pointy guitar. btw, Joe - the Hofner looks real nice! Quote
Shawn Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) That's one darn pointy guitar. I don't think I'd want to try to play that one sitting down. It's called the "triryche" custom made by ESP and is a variation on their logo design: Edited January 13, 2009 by Shawn Quote
7/4 Posted January 13, 2009 Author Report Posted January 13, 2009 Oh...I see. Still, I wouldn't want to stumble on stage and bump into the other guitar player or fall into the audience. dB Quote
Sundog Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Is there a way to find out what year a specific Gibson was produced by the serial number? American Guitars: An Illustrated History by Tom Wheeler is an excellent reference for this sort of thing. Quote
skeith Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 My son got one of those Ibanez 3/4 size electric guitars and it is always going out of tune. This is of course, a rather inexpensive guitar- around $100. I note the the tuning pegs seem awfully easy to move - could that be the problem? Maybe a dumb question - but I thought I would give it a try. Quote

Shawn Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I think I've narrowed down the search on finding out the year of my guitar. The Gibson Explorer E2 was only manufactured from 1979-1983, the serial number on mine starts with a 7 so I'm guessing it's a 79. I've searched around online and the one odd thing is I haven't found any pictures of my model guitar that has the locking tremolo. I registered over at the Gibson forum in hopes that someone there can solve the mystery. I gotta get a digital camera... Quote

It could have been installed after it left the factory. Quote
