Jazz Kat Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Allright, who here loves Lost In Space from the 60's. I have the whole first season and half of the second on DVD, love it! Really want the rest. Any other fans? Quote
Free For All Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I saw this show when it was first on the air. I remember even then wishing that someone would whack Dr. Smith. They had some spectacularly cheesy special effects and alien costumes. Quote
7/4 Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I saw this show when it was first on the air. I remember even then wishing that someone would whack Dr. Smith. Interesting. I saw it in reruns for years and felt the same way. Quote
chris olivarez Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I always thought the show was funny without intending to be that way. Quote
Ron S Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 The only reason the show was worth watching: Quote
chris olivarez Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 The only reason the show was worth watching: You mean you didn't like the robot!!!! . Actually I liked watching Angela Cartwright grow up during the shows run. Quote
Ron S Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Just for Chris, here's a photo of the robot lookin' real sexy: Quote
Ron S Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 And another thing, Chris, if you start gettin' a hankerin' to watch old videos of Angela Cartwright "growing up" while your honey's around the house, just push this button. Quote
7/4 Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Just for Chris, here's a photo of the robot lookin' real sexy: Oh baby! Another piece of gear to lust after! Quote
Ron S Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 BTW, here's Marta Kristen NOW, almost 60 years old: SHWAAANG! Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Haven't seen the show since I was a kid. Loved it then. Does it hold up to an adult's point of view? Quote
RDK Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Haven't seen the show since I was a kid. Loved it then. Does it hold up to an adult's point of view? The first season (b & W) maybe. The rest, uh, no... Quote
Dave James Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I also have the first season of Lost in Space. Fun from a campy point of view. As someone else said, funny but without the intent to be funny. Without Dr. Smith, though, pretty much a total waste of time, although June Lockhart does sport some of the worst hair in the entire history of television. I don't think I'd want to go beyond season one. Much like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, another show that was reasonably watchable at first, Lost kind of deteriorated into a monster of the week effort after the writers wore out whatever creativity they originally brought to the table. Say, for being 60 years old, Marta Kristen doesn't look half bad. She's probably fashioned a nice career for herself going to Lost in Space conventions and the like. Up over and out. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 (edited) This show came on the year we went to Africa. . . I was so excited to see the first few episodes. . . and then whammo. . . . didn't get to see any til about six years later in reruns. It wasn't the same. That eleven year old excited kiddo wasn't around any more! Where did this picture come from! It's a fake. . . right? Edited March 15, 2005 by jazzbo Quote
ghost of miles Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I think Weizen's a fan... I've never seen it, believe it or not. At breakfast today some pals & I were talking SPACE 1999/BATTLESHIP GALACTICA... different generation, eh? Quote
BruceH Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I remember watching later (color) episodes of Lost In Space when I was little and thinking they were cool. Then I caught afternoon repeats of the black & white season, and clearly it was better (at least, the first half.) Then as I got older (say, beyond the age of eight) the show seemed dumber and cheesier all the time. I doubt that anyone over the age of 10 could watch it with anything but camp pleasure. Except for Judy and Penny of course. Or put it this way: Lost In Space, the show that makes the original Star Trek look relatively sophistcated and well done. Way to go, Irwin! Quote
Jazz Kat Posted March 15, 2005 Author Report Posted March 15, 2005 Oh guys you're missing the point. Lost In Space is good mainly because its so un-intentionally funny! It's called 1960's television. Quote
JSngry Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I would question the "unintentionally funny" part. Pretty sure that the writers and the actors were aware of the Stoopid Factor more often than not. Quote
Jim R Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 To this day, I've only seen bits and pieces of it. I have two older brothers, and at least one of them was around when this show first aired (what year was that?) to talk me out of watching it. The same thing happened with other shows of that ilk. I was also steered away from The Monkees in the nick of time (I think I could have figured that one out for myself). Anybody know what was on (first season, let's say) the other networks in that time slot? I'm sure we watched something that has stood the test of time a little better, but I'm drawing a blank now. JK, 60's TV could be very good, and it could be very weak. B-) Quote
