Chuck Nessa Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 Thanks for the nice comments. Eddie was a special person, as I hope the booklet notes reveal. I still have some difficulty speaking/typing about this kind man. Quote
papsrus Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 I was just listening to Indian Summer last evening. Was about to send Chuck a note about what a beautiful recording this is when I spied this thread. So Chuck, thank you. The recording is exquisite. Thanks, James Quote
colinmce Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 As a heads up, Dusty Groove has an LP copy for $1.99 at the moment. Quote
Clunky Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 FWIW I have both the CD and LP of this date. I prefer LPs but on this occasion the CD with bonus track wins. IIRC Chuck remixed the session which leads to better separation of the instruments. Having said that the LP was very good sounding to start with. $2 seriously undervalues the music therein. Quote
colinmce Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 I have noticed that Chicago record stores resell Chicago albums at deliriously low prices. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 *some* Chicago jazz albums. Some are frighteningly rare. I have Indian Summer on LP and really enjoy it. The CD reissue was certainly welcome and necessary; I need to get those Delmark CDs too. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the kind comments from everyone. I did remix the 24 track masters for the cd issue (insuring a financial loss) and I do prefer the cd to the "leader centric" view taken back in the early '80s. Shortly after the first session Eddie, Paul Serrano, John Young and I were part of a planeload of Chicago musicians going to NYC for a Chicago Night at Carnegie Hall as part of the Newport In New York festivities. When we got to the hotel we were greeted by Joe Williams and everything halted so Joe could listen to the session cassette in my walkman. I will never forget the smile on his face. I should repeat this grouping was originally created by Eddie to accompany Joe at an engagement at the Holiday Inn Lakeshore. I hope I have written about this concert and the preparations elsewhere - if not, please remind me later. Edited August 14, 2013 by Chuck Nessa Quote
mjzee Posted August 15, 2013 Report Posted August 15, 2013 There is such nice interplay among the musicians. Quote
