Dan Gould Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Jimmy Smith - It's Necessary (Mercury) - live date w/some primo Teddy Edwards. Spotted, carted, and confirmed from Da' Bastids after a 20+ year search. $8.99 for a VG+ promo copy. Works for me! Just goes to show ya'. Damn. All you had to do was tell me you were looking for it. You're search might have been about, what, three years shorter? Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Teddy is only on one track, actually. But Blue and Harold Land are on the rest. Quote
JSngry Posted April 23, 2005 Author Report Posted April 23, 2005 Teddy is only on one track, actually. But Blue and Harold Land are on the rest. Well, that one track is the one that made the lasting impression! But ok, Blue & Land, I can handle that. Quote
JSngry Posted April 23, 2005 Author Report Posted April 23, 2005 Damn. All you had to do was tell me you were looking for it. You're search might have been about, what, three years shorter? Yeah, but I kinda like having stuff to still keep looking for. And the list keeps getting shorter, even as the gaps between scratchoffs get longer. That's to be expected, kinda like those suoermarket bingo games, or seome such. Besides, if I had everything I wanted, what would be left to want? Quote
Jazz Kat Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Yeah, but I kinda like having stuff to still keep looking for. There's always something left to look for. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Great record. I just pulled that one out a few weeks ago and listened again. Quote
Brad Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 20 years is a long time to look for a record. Incredible that you couldn't get it before now. Was it worth the wait? Quote
Jazz Kat Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Well I'm dieing to hear a couple of albums: The Three Sounds (Here We Come) Booker T And The MG's (McClemore Avenue, Doing Our Thing) If in 20 years, I still don't have em, I'll report back. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 JSngry: You did notice, didn't you, that the "For Your Love" included on this fine album is NOT the G. Gouldman-penned Yardbirds hit as credited, but rather the Ed Townsend tune of the same name from the '50s which was a hit for him and several others subsequently? I was disappointed initially, but in retrospect it does make more sense as material for this bunch... Dana Quote
JSngry Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 I had heard the album years ago, and, yes, I discovered that mislisting then. FWIW, albums like this, that have been on the "looking for" list for 20+ years, aren't ones that I've been obsessively looking for. They're just ones that I've heard along the way and have decided to pick up if and when I stumble across them. I like having such a list, and I like letting things fall into my lap, so to speak. It's good to always have something to look forward to. Quote
