Free For All Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 (edited) I don't know about you guys, but I'm looking forward to these new sides more than about anything that's come out lately. I've only heard the Miles material from Live-Evil;otherwise it's all new to me. Also looking forward to the Trane Half Note set coming out this fall. There has been so much great music coming out lately between Mosaic, Blue Note et al. Not to mention Chuck's recent Bird discovery. A wealth of riches! And much of it I haven't heard before. We're doing all right. September 27th is going to be a good day. Plus it's Bud Powell's birthday. Jes bein' thankful. What's on your Holy Grail list? Edited October 1, 2005 by Free For All Quote
Rosco Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 I'm with you on the Miles, the Monk & Trane, that batch of fine Blue Note Connoisseurs Also looking forward to the batch of Tubby Hayes reissues including Mexican Green, 100% Proof, Tubbs Tours. There's almost too much stuff coming out. But am I compaining? Hell, no. I can always buy food another time... Quote
Rosco Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Although... I still haven't seen a UK release date for the Miles. Don't these things usually get a simultaneous UK/ US release? Quote
jazzbo Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 JELLY ROLL MORTON ON ROUNDER! Quote
Dave James Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 I'm eagerly anticipating the Monk/Coltrane and "Back From the Gig", but I'm really psyched for the Ray Charles Atlantic box that comes out next week. I'm going to Hawaii for 2 1/2 weeks in October. This will be my constant companion. Up over and out. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Wow, two and a half weeks in Hawaii, and the Charles box! Jealous am I! If you are going to be in Oahu, have a drink at the House Without a Key at the Halikulani hotel for me! PLEASE! Quote
Ron S Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 If you are going to be in Oahu, have a drink at the House Without a Key at the Halikulani hotel for me! PLEASE! If he won't do it for you Lon, I will. -_- (Just send me the airfare and hotel costs, if you don't mind. I'll pay for the drink). Quote
jazzbo Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 I wish I could afford to send out about two dozen airfares and hotel payments. . . but alas. . . I can't. I'm not one of Bush's buddies. . . . Quote
Free For All Posted September 19, 2005 Author Report Posted September 19, 2005 One week 'til shipping! I tacked the Mehldau on when I noticed it also came out on the 27th. My order: Davis, Miles The Cellar Door Sessions 1970 $38.49 Pre-Order Now! Available: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 (lucky to have gotten this at the lower price!) Monk, Thelonious At Carnegie Hall $13.29 Pre-Order Now! Available: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 Brad Mehldau Trio Day Is Done $13.29 Pre-Order Now! Available: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 Quote
GregK Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 Sept 27 is going to bust my credit card! I too ordered the Cellar Door for the low CD universe price and for $10 I got the 2-day shipping, which should give me enough time to listen to the Monk/Coltrane- I'm also going to get the new Neil Young, new Ryan Adams and probably the new Band box set! Ouch! Quote
Brad Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Dave, Hope you're not just going to Ohau. I found that island a disappointment, nothing compared to the bid island or Kauai. Quote
trane_fanatic Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 I heard an advance of this documentary special on the Trane/ Monk CH session last night. Excellent. Has interviews w/ Michael Cuscuna, Lewis Porter, Ravi Coltrane & T.S. Monk amongst others. http://www.wbgo.org/ontheair/2005/evidence.asp Quote
Free For All Posted September 23, 2005 Author Report Posted September 23, 2005 Uh oh. I just checked on my order at CDUniverse and the Cellar Door info now says "Release date not determined". I wonder WTF is going on............. Quote
jlhoots Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Uh oh. I just checked on my order at CDUniverse and the Cellar Door info now says "Release date not determined". I wonder WTF is going on............. ← Yeah - what does that mean??? Anybody know?? Quote
Peter Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Per CDUniverse it looks like the Blue Notes are on track for 10/04/05. I'll prbably get them all. Quote
Free For All Posted September 26, 2005 Author Report Posted September 26, 2005 (edited) It figures. Just when I was really pumped for a new release it gets all jacked up. So now I'll have to wait not only for the Miles but also the Monk/Trane (since I had them shipped together). Maybe I'll just cancel the Monk/Trane (and the Mehldau) from my order and get them locally. I definitely won't cancel the Miles since I got it for the lower price. I'll be curious to hear what this latest Cellar Door delay is all about. EDIT: I just made myself feel better by pre-ordering some October 4th Conns. Now watch that order get backed up!
