7/4 Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 Anthony Braxton's Comp. 247 (dedicated to Oum Kaltsoum, check her out) is for him, James Fei (also on a bunch of wind instruments) and Matthew Welch on bagpipes. Quote

Sundog Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 why not? ← Listen to this album and "see" what happens when bagpipes outlive their welcome. I always get a kick out of the way Sonny cuts Rufus' solo off during Swing Low. Enough is enough...time for some tenor sax! Quote
7/4 Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 why not? ← You have to ask? ← I say it's time for some banjo jokes. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 (edited) Yeah, but the banjo has an extensive history in creative music, and is pretty respectable as instruments go. In modern jazz? Malachi Favors, Han Bennink are a couple of improvisers who have made statements on it. Dig Elmer Snowden, too. He is/was a master of the instrument in traditional jazz.
