BERIGAN Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 (edited) Perhaps I missed a thread like this in the past, but thought it would be interesting to see if anyone has some of my more unpop...err I mean obscure cds.. and what obscure jazz others have. Since Brownie and Lon own every jazz cd and lp, they cannot participate.....kidding!!! Ok, the cds.... Fred Elizalde and his Anglo American Band(1928-29) Retrieval label. Chelsea Quealey, Bobby Davis, all the big names.... Riverboat Shuffle (Memphis Archives) famous folk such as Paul Tremaine and Whitey Kaufman are on hand. Stuff Smith Trio -1943 on the Progressive label(Great transcription recordings) Duke Ellington the British Connexion 1933-1940 Tiny Parham 1928 1930 2 cd set from Timeless with Milt Hinton! So, anyone have any of these? What does everyone else have? Edited September 21, 2005 by BERIGAN Quote
Clunky Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Stuff Smith Trio -1943 on the Progressive label(Great transcription recordings) ← Have this on LP (Circle) I presume it'll be the same session, very good playing although heavy on alterante takes Quote

Are you saying a cd with 16 tracks, and 10 different songs is heavy on alterante takes? Quote
jazzbo Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 I don't have the Stuff, yet. I have the others. Why ask? Quote
BERIGAN Posted September 21, 2005 Author Report Posted September 21, 2005 I don't have the Stuff, yet. I have the others. Why ask? ← Because it is interesting to see if others have grabbed a cd you only saw once .Most of those cds were bought before the internet was the main place to find cds. (Except the Ellington cd I think) Also, to see what others have purchased that might not warrant a thread alone....they might mention a cd no one knew was out there.Plus, we are all a desperate for new ideas of cds to purchase. jazzbo Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Well, for me, to my great fiscal misfortune, the internet has been my main source for cds for about six years or more. I got all these cds on the internet. Anyone have this cd? Recommended if you like your Brazilian with a lot of twists. Quote
brownie Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Since Brownie and Lon own every jazz cd and lp, they cannot participate.....kidding!!! If you think, I'm going to participate in, a thread with people who don't have the Stuff Smith and the Duke Ellington British Connection CDs!!! Those are the ones I have from the list. Great stuff Quote
Guest Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 HINDSON, ANTHONY ~ IT`S A CURIOUS LIFE A Jazz / Rock / World Music fusion album by the British guitarist Anthony Hindson, who plays here with a stellar lineup of musicians from both the World Music (Zakir Hussain, Shankar), Jazz (Tonny Williams) and Rock (Jack Bruce) genres. Similar to the best achievements by the group Shakti led by John McLaughlin. I'm pretty sure nobody here has that one? Quote
Guest Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Or this one: WINTER, KITTY ~ THE GIPSY ALBUM Kitty Winer (vocals) and her husband Koono (keyboards) are both gipsies, as are most of the players on this album, including such famous musicians as Bireli Lagrene, Tony Lakatos and Decibal Badila (best fusion bass player today). Also on board is the superstar Joe Zawinul with additional keyboards. The result - one of the best fusion jazz albums of all times - Weather Report with vocals! Quote
kh1958 Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 I have the Ellington British Connection CD. Not the others. Quote
medjuck Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 I have the Ellington British Connection CD. Not the others. ← Me too. ButIm sure interested in the Tiny Parnham. Heard some on the radio a while ago and that band sounded really good! Quote
LAL Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Yes to the Fred E, Duke and Smith discs. Have Tiny Parham on Classics and Neatwork but the sound is probably (far) inferior to the Timeless reissue. Anyone has this - The Three Keys/Bon Bon & His Buddies (TTK BBB)? Quote
brownie Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Anyone has this - The Three Keys/Bon Bon & His Buddies (TTK BBB)? ← Got that one. Not a CD I return to often. Bought it mainly for the Bon Bon and his Buddies session with Joe Thomas and Buster Smith. Quote
