Ken Dryden Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Cadence (www.cadencebuilding.com) still carries Dragon releases. They add a surcharge to orders by non-subscribers. Quote
tjobbe Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 (edited) one further option -but only if you find a european shipping address (as the swedish online shop only ships within EU)- is here Cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: amazon.de does also have listed this Dragon 4er for 45€ +S&H (but not sure if they can really get it in stock) Edited January 3, 2006 by tjobbe Quote
Dave James Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 (edited) Here's a link to the Dragon site itself: www.dragonrecords.se. Because there are other, more accessible sources that carry their catalogue, this is mostly for informational purposes, but be advised, delving into the Dragon inventory can be hazardous to your fiscal well-being. BTW, I heartily endorse your pursuit of the Davis Stockholm recordings. IMO, they are indespensible. Up over and out. Edited January 3, 2006 by Dave James Quote
jazzbo Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 IMO as well. This box set also came out later on DIW. . . never saw or heard that version. Dragon Records can indeed be a deadly fiscal direction to pursue. Reminds me I still need to grab one of the Gullins. Quote
Dmitry Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 IMO as well. This box set also came out later on DIW. . . never saw or heard that version. Lon, I think the DIW version was a shortened 2-cd set, unless it came out in 2 vols. How stupid I was not to buy this Dragon when I saw a bunch of them at the NYC Tower. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Hmmm. . . I remember all the discs available from DIW. But I'm at the age where my memory is beginning to be suspect . . . . Shouldn't be hard to find Dmitry. I would pursue the cduniverse route with a call or email. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Hmmmmm. . . looks as if you're right, I can see no evidence on the web that DIW reissued the Stitt material. Go Dragon then. Quote
Dave James Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Lon, I was purusing the Dragon site a couple of days ago. My understanding from a very old Penquin Guide to Jazz was that Lars Gullin recorded five sessions for Dragon as a leader. Turns out there are eight CD's of his available. The three I was unaware of are Vol. 6, "The Sidemen" (DRCD 391), Vol 7. "Silouette" (DRCD 395) and Vol. 8. "Danny's Dream"(DRCD 396). Vol. 6 appears to be more of a compilation of sessions Gullin recorded with others, but on 7 & 8, it looks like he's the leader. I will be pursuing these other CD's, as I have something of a Jones for Gullin's work. Of all the guys who have hoisted the big pipe (Mulligan, Chaloff, Adams et al) he's my favorite. Up over and out. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Aye Yaye yaye! I was thinking I needed to get Vol. 6! Now there are 7 and 8? Darn this place! Quote
Sundog Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 "www.alldirect.com" typically has the Stockholm set for about $4 cheaper than cdUniverse. Unfortunately it's not in stock at the moment, but they do restock it on a regular basis. You can't go wrong either way, great music! Quote
djcavanagh Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 amazon.co.uk have it at £28.99 (and say that they will dispatch within 24 hours) Quote
Kreilly Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 amazon.co.uk have it at £28.99 (and say that they will dispatch within 24 hours) I have a 4 disc 1960 set at the Olympia. March 21 with Coltrane and October 11 with Stitt. It's on the Europe1 label. Looks like it may be a boot. Does anyone know how this compares to the Stockholm set? Kevin Quote

Looks like it may be a boot. Does anyone know how this compares to the Stockholm set? Kevin The Miles Davis Olympia set is as legitimate as the Stockholm set. I love that one but prefer the Paris box. Coltrane goes on a wild ride in the first Olympia concert and the end result is stupendous! Quote
Dmitry Posted January 10, 2006 Author Report Posted January 10, 2006 I'm learning to use personal spending restraint. Had a choice between this box set and this book. Chose the book. Quote
Dave James Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Possible grounds for expulsion from the Organissimo community. Up over and out. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Yeah, no kidding. Where are your priorities at, comrad. Get your head in the game. Quote
Dmitry Posted January 10, 2006 Author Report Posted January 10, 2006 The box is next on my list. Quote
