brownie Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 (edited) The Rich ARE different From AFP: GATES TOO RICH FOR TAX COMPUTER Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the world's richest man, said today the tax office in the US has to store his financial data on a special computer because his fortune is so vast. "My tax return in the United States has to be kept on a special computer because their normal computers can't deal with the numbers," he said at a Microsoft conference held in Lisbon. "So I am constantly getting these notices telling me I haven't paid something when really it is just on the wrong computer," he added in comments broadcast on television. "Then they will send me another notice telling me how bad they feel they that they sent me a notice that was a mistake," he said Gates's fortune is put at $US47 billion, according to the latest list of the world's rich published by Forbes magazine. Last month Time magazine named Gates and his wife Melinda, along with rock star Bono, its Persons of the Year for 2005, citing their charitable work and activism aimed at reducing global poverty and improving world health. The couple's Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has a $US29 billion endowment making it the world's biggest charity. Edited February 1, 2006 by brownie Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 The same goes for me. Man, to be that rich. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 So does this special computer run Windows? Quote
Daniel A Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 But 640 kB RAM surely ought to be more than enough? Quote
Claude Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 (edited) "So I am constantly getting these notices telling me I haven't paid something when really it is just on the wrong computer," he added in comments broadcast on television. Very clever! On the machine that deals with Bill Gates' taxes, the reminders say he is supposed to pay his taxes on January 31, 19106. (BTW, do a Google search on "january 19106" to see how many websites are still not Y2K-ready) Edited February 1, 2006 by Claude Quote
AllenLowe Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 if Bill Gates had a nickel for every time Windows crashes.... wait - he does! Quote
catesta Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 It's crazy how rich this fucking guy is. The only thing crazier is the 100 billion dollar fortune Sam Walton's widow and kids have. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 if Bill Gates had a nickel for every time Windows crashes.... wait - he does! Actually, if he had a nickle for every time Windows crashes, he'd probably be 10x richer than he already is! Quote
