JSngry Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 A friend hipped me to two of his sides and I know nothing more than that this is some of the most uplifiting music I've heard in quite a while. Can anybody elucidate? Quote
relyles Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 At the moment I am enjoying a CDR of the radio broadcast of Zim Ngqawana's performance at the 2002 North Sea Jazz Festival. Decided to do a check to see what may have been said here previously and came up with a couple of references in the South African jazz thread. Anybody able to recommend any of his recordings in particular> Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 Don't know anything about him, but I see he's here! Quote
king ubu Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Fine player! His disc "Zimphonic Suites" (Sheer Sound, 2001) is all I have (in addition to said radio broadcast). Planning to catch him live in a few weeks! Quote

jimi089 Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 We've been lucky to have him in Chicago a number of times in the last few years. First at Millennium Park with Ernest Dawkins. This year he came and sat in with Fred Anderson and William Parker at the Velvet Lounge while he was in town to play Orbert Davis' tribute to Nelson Mandela. A great player and a very interesting guy to talk to. Quote
