mgraham333 Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 I saw Akeelah and the Bee over the weekend. Cute movie. Predictable, but a good story. During the scene where Akeelah is in Morpheus's Dr. Larabee's office you can see two Blue Note albums framed and hanging on the wall. Quote
Big Al Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Some friends of ours saw this movie and reported that it was a very uplifting movie. You've just given me two more reasons to see this picture! Quote
ejp626 Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 HubTones just maybe, but would you really hang Somethin' Else on the wall? The cover is so plain. Quote
Shawn Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 I've always liked the Somethin' Else cover...because of it's simplicity. Quote
Noj Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 (edited) My parents watch that Two & A Half Men show (pretty funny). In passing I noticed this poster on the wall of their set last night: Edited May 2, 2006 by Noj Quote
BruceH Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 Dr. Larabee likes Hub-Tones? Now if he had framed say, Soul Station and Davis Cup I could really respect the dude... Actually, we almost saw this last night, but it wasn't playing in the proverbial theater near us. We saw Flight 93 instead. Not as uplifting, I'll bet. Quote
Alexander Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 My favorite jazz album cover in a movie is in "The Talented Mr. Ripley." Unlike the in novel where the character is a talentless painter, Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law) is a jazz fan/saxophone player. When Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) gets close to Dickie, he starts listening to jazz as well. At one point, in his apartement, we see a Miles Davis album cover. This one, to be exact: Did I mention that the movie is set in the late 50s? Quote
brownie Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 The cover (by David Stone Martin) to Bud Powell 'Jazz Giant' vinyl is very visible in Woody Allen's 'Anything Else' when Jason Biggs and Christina Ricci search for vinyls in a NY record shop. Quote
