Free For All Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 Chris, man- we gotta talk. I'm a little worried about you. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 I think it's maybe time for an "intervention". Quote
Jazz Kat Posted May 26, 2006 Author Report Posted May 26, 2006 oh come on.... clap your hands and sing bo-be-do-be-do!! Quote
Free For All Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 oh come on.... clap your hands and sing bo-be-do-be-do!! I believe that's Sinatra's scatting from Strangers In The Night. Although Frank did record Winchester Cathedral too. ("You didn't do nothin', you didn't ding-dong, you let her get by") Which I doubt you'll find on any compilations. Not one of his nobler moments. chris olivarez Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 Gimme the Bonzos any damn day. Hear!!!!Hear!!!!. JK is in dire need of listening to "Ali Baba's Camel" Quote
JSngry Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 There was actually a tangental personnel and/or personal connection between the Bonzos & The New Vaudeville Band, but damned if I remember what it is, and damned if I care. But I do remember seeing the NVB on, I think, Hollywood Palace back in the day, and they had a pretty off-the-wall stage schtick. Come to find out, they stole it from the Bonzos. That I do remember. chris olivarez Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 I saw them on Ed Sullivan and I could've sworn they were a Rudy Vallee cover band. So I guess off the wall is a pretty apt description. Quote
AllenLowe Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 let us not forget Allen Sherman's: "Westchester Hadassah, you're bringin' me down..." Quote
BeBop Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 Man, I"ve got that Winchester Cathedral record. Somewhere. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 I just confirmed that I still have the 45 of the follow-up, "Finchley Central" ....... Saw the on TV once - they really were not that bad. The dusty older editions of rock encyclopedias I just consulted do not show any personnel overlap between the New Vaudeville Band and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah band. But there was a comedy show band that included several Vaudevillieans that toured Germany every year during carnival time, at least for some years: Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band. I always laughed heartily while watching their shows on tv. Quote
