I was heading back to Toledo from Southern Michigan today and saw at least 3 Fed Ex Ground trailers, driving together.

No doubt they were loaded with Concord goodies to disburse across the country.

I see in another thread that Lon's 7/23 order shipped today. Our Man Jackson told me this afternoon that there were a ton or orders on 7/24, and a bunch more on 7/25. So, I'm presuming, this may be where we start to see lots more titles disappear. (Not to cause a panic or anything. )

i still don't understand how my 7/22 order arrived last week and those who ordered before I did still haven't gotten theirs yet. This is a lot of music- I'm only on disc 6!

I don't know either, but I'm glad you had mentioned it earlier as it led to lots of calls to Jackson. Justice will prevail!

Hopefully justice will prevail. But I'm extremely confident that someone will get shortchanged in one manner or another. Given the prices no one should be too unhappy, but they appear way too disorganized not to mess something up somewhere.

At least in my case.... I was not that familiar with 'Trane's Prestige stuff... Everyone knows about his Impulse era...

There are two things driving this...

1. The Price... and

2. Going OOP..

(but it's mainly the price.... ) If this same set was on sale for $100 or $150... I suspect half of us who ordered would not have ordered... but at $4 a CD?

In my case, it was because I was first exposed to Coltrane at the wrong (for me) end of his career. All I had initially heard of him was his free and avant garde stuff. I hated it and thus avoided Coltrane for years. Then I was in a music store listening to samples and I gave "Blue Train" a listen and really enjoyed it. That lead me to listening to his earliest work on Prestige which I really enjoyed as well. When I discoved this sale, the price was too good to pass up and out of the handful of Coltrane CDs I had picked up at this point, only 2 of them were included on the Prestige box. (one of them a Red Garland date) Thus, with one fell swoop I would be able to pick up the best (for me) of Coltrane's career which will be rounded out by the smattering of Blue Note, Atlantic and Impulse recordings I've also come to enjoy.

In a broader sense, I don't believe that just because one is a jazz fan that they are automatically going to like Coltrane. Was I not a jazz fan during those years where I consciously rejected Coltrane but listened to scores of other jazz artists?

Ya know, for a set that came out in '91, the sound quality of this s--- sounds damn MF good. Ditto for the Evans box.

To my ears, early '90's Fantasy CDs generally sound pretty damn great.

I just got a call from Jackson at Concord -- I will not be receiving the Evans Box I ordered because it is

SOLD OUT!! (I ordered on July 25th). I guess one consolation is that I have most of the Evans Riverside material on single CD's (several in K2 format). Oh well...

The Evans material is essential any way you can get them. I've been playing the box all weekend, just absolutely sublime and gorgeous sounds.

There was a nice booklet with mine. Are you sure it was the same set?

I should have my Coltrane box tomorrow! I see by the FedEx tracking that it is only about 25 miles away.

I feel pretty fortunate that I'm getting one at all. I had ordered both the Evans and Coltrane box and was pretty much resigned that I would get neither. To end all torture and speculation, I called Concord's customer service on 8/16 to check on the status of my orders. The rep there was very nice and helpful and informed me that both were probably out of stock. He offered to contact the warehouse to check and give me a call back. He called back shortly thereafter and told me that the Evans was out of stock but that they would be shipping me the Coltrane box that same day. Expecting to get nothing, I was pretty pumped to get that good news! I'm really glad that I called because I don't think I would have gotten the Coltrane if I had waited it out.

Well, all my bitching and moaning and whining and groaning notwithstanding , I received notice that my 7/24 order shipped today, and that everything shipped except for 2 Dolphy CDs. That means I got both the Coltrane AND the Evans boxes! I take back everything bad I said about Concord. Well, almost everything--it still took a hell of a long time (and there's still that 7/29 order).

So, it all evens out in the scales of life's precarious whims. To ease my pain, I bought Turn Out The Stars today.

I'd definitely give them a call sooner rather than later and hope that you get a good rep. I ordered mine well after yours and I could be wrong, but the rep may have pulled a string to get it for me. I just asked about the status of my orders and he said that they were most likely out of stock. I pointed out to him that they were still listed for sale as late as a couple of days before my 8/16 call. He admitted that they were but indicated they should have been taken off the site. He then volunteered to check with the warehouse and call me back. It ended up being shipped that same day. I was just going to let things slide thinking I was going to get nothing. I changed my mind and called because I figured the worst that could happen was that I'd find out for sure that I wasn't going to get anything. I'm glad I did call because I think it made the difference between getting it and not getting it.

Good luck. I hope everyone that wanted one of these gets one. It's quite the ma-mah-ja-mah.

According to Fed Ex, I should have my Coltrane Box by Friday -- geez, it takes a long time to get from California to Florida!! I'm glad I called Concord when I did or I doubt I would have received the Coltrane Box --- although by the time I inqired about the Evans Box that I had ordered it was gone.

Well, in order to console myself about not getting the Evans Box, I guess I may have to order the Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions Mosaic box under the 10% sale...maybe it will make me feel better!!!!
