Dmitry Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 I must confess I ordered about 100 cds, many of them not known to me, in a crazy moment of "at $3 per disc how can you go wrong?!" delirium. Got my shipment yesterday. Only opened one cd so far and it's a dudley. Dave Pike - Carnavals, which combines Bossa Nova Carnival and Limbo Carnival Lps he recorded for the New Jazz label in '62. While Bossa Nova Carnival half of the disc is more or less OK, the Limbo Carnival is totally a dentist's office music. That baby goes straight into the local library donation box. Next...! Quote
GA Russell Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Oh no! I ordered that one too. Haven't heard it yet. Quote

The first impression wasn't so hot with me either. However, it is a fairly modern reissue where they filled up to the brim with 78 minutes. As you note the 1st part is more or less OK, so if more of those tracks click after a couple of plays it may be a keeper. A lot of music played since then but I thought there was some nice Burrell on at least a couple of tracks, though the 2nd session without him gave me an itchy remote finger. It's quite alright not to play a CD all the way through if that's what it takes to improves it. Edited August 12, 2006 by Quincy Quote

Patients say she's soothing. But no Kenny G. Quote

mikeweil Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 I'll take a copy of Limbo Carnival for $ 3 plus postage from one of you - it's one of the titles not offered over here. Quote
