Soul Stream Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 ...just 'cause it's mindblowing. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 (edited) Good suggestion, Soul Stream. Just put side 2 of the 'Rare Groove' LP on the platter. Indeed it is a mindblowing LP. This session has never got the plaudits it deserves (and is probably my all time favourite BJP). Side 2 a particular fave on this one with 'Shoutin But No Poutin' hitting a great groove, track 2 ('Spirit') with Harold Alexander going completely apeshit ( ) and 'B & J (Two Sisters)' (they sound pretty cool) ending things very much on a high with some nice Alexander flute work. Great cover art of Big John in action and thoughtful sleeve notes by John Zorn. What is there not to like? Edited September 1, 2006 by sidewinder Quote
Clunky Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Got this around the same time as I got Accent on the blues and Memphis.. Cds, Boogaloo stands head and shoulders above these two IMO Quote
sidewinder Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Big John's footwork is also particularly impressive on this album. Lots going on there.. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 No such thing as bad Patton; only BAAAAD Patton! MG Quote
