How they were playing bebop in the late '60s, w/ real long versions of the tunes w/ real long solos, real fast w a lot of notes, espically in regards to the pianos, like in europe, w/ '68 hank or '69 dexter or late period don byas.

anyway back to the point - they probably weren't playing much bebop in the late 1960s - was one of the worst times for jazz employment. Hence recordings like Lou Donaldson's Hot Dog.

i believe in the late 60s, if you lived in copenhagen, you could walk into a club and hear a 20 minute cherokee whenver you liked, allan. i think.....

If it was Dexter or Griff doin' the 20 minute "Cherokee", with, say, Kenny Drew, NHOP, and Tootie Heath, that would count as a good time to me. But I agree, not many players keep it interesting for that long. Still not sure what Chewy's tryin' to say here, though. I guess he's like a good rhythm section, allowing us each a lot of different directions to go on this tune, er, thread.
