GA Russell Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I'm tapped out from buying Christmas presents. I mentioned in the BMG thread that I'm getting Herb Alpert Presents Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 for the grand total of $2.97 shipping. Anybody spending any Christmas money at Your Music to save a few bucks? Quote

Big Wheel Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 John Coltrane Village Vanguard Box (this is kind of stupid, considering that they still haven't delivered my last CD from November, but whatever) Quote
J Larsen Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 John Coltrane Village Vanguard Box (this is kind of stupid, considering that they still haven't delivered my last CD from November, but whatever) Yeah, maybe if 70% of the packages they sent me didn't get "lost" they wouldn't have to raise the prices. Quincy Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I went a little overboard, but I don't forsee any hits to the music budget in Jan & Feb. Upgraded some Marvin Gaye beat up vinyl with the 3 Deluxe Editions (What's Going On, Let's Get It On & I Want You.) Also added The Master 4 disc box set. Coltrane's A Love Supreme Deluxe. Already have the main disc of course, and had the concert as a boot. But figured it was time to make an honest man of myself, and crossing my fingers for sound improvement on both. Long overdue - Count Basie Decca 3 disc set. I've heard it, and passed at a friend's long ago offer to burn it for me. Gotta have the "scorecard" on that one! (Never mind doing the right thing.) Oh yeah, and we'll see if they still have it as there may have been an after death rush on it, but also the James Brown Deluxe Apollo Pt. 2. Had it in my sights honest but waited until after Xmas to place my order, so we'll see. Spend $101.83 to save $17 it looks like. Quote

bolivarblues Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Damn, I keep trying to pull the trigger on the Basie box! I just haven't been able to do it, yet. Perhaps I should before time runs out, in two days! I have, however, picked up Miles Davis' Get Up With It and Trio Beyond's Saudades as last-minute purchases. Still waiting...Is it me, or has yourmusic gotten significantly slower with their delivery times over the last few months? Quote

I still haven't gotten an order I placed for the Trio Beyond the first week of Dec., but I got the Weather Report box from BMG in less than a week. Quote
montg Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 I joined yourmusic right after Christmas--to make some holiday bucks go a little farther. If I had read this thread first, I probably would have passed, given the crummy customer service. Anyway, I ordered Jackie Mclean's 'Consequence', Dave Douglas (Meaning and Mystery), Joe Lovano's CD with Hank Jones (Joyous something or other), the Gil Evans Conn, and Blakey's 'Mosaic'. BMG's prices are a little higher, but I've found their customer service to be pretty reliable. And with the 6.99 change coming, the yourmusic price will become pretty comparable to the BMG buy one get 4 free deal--I'll probably cancel out of your music once/if my order comes through. Quote
bolivarblues Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 (edited) I've been a member for about 2 years, and the customer service/shipping times haven't always been so poor. It's really only been in the last couple of months that the decline has been evident. As for customer service - what customer service? E-mail is the only way to reach them (using a web form), and they have not replied to the last three or four messages I've sent, regarding serious problems I was having where my orders were doubling and tripling themselves (order one disc, then I check history and it says two discs, next time three discs...). Shipping notification e-mails, if I get one, are often very late - my last notification came the day after the item had already arrived. The "order history" feature is about useless - the shipment date isn't posted usually until several days after it ships. I wonder if they are making a deliberate attempt to slow down service. I was typically getting a CD shipped out within two days of ordering, and then the shipment was taking four days. There was no real need to pay for expedited shipping since the regular shipping was so prompt. And since they can't do anything about how quickly the postal service ships your order, they can sit on the package for a few extra days and slow things down a bit. I used the $7.99 expedited shipping option before Christmas because the website said it was the only way to get the order in time for Christmas. Three business days after the order, there it was at my front door, courtesy DHS. But item sent from my queue, just two days after that order, showed up yesterday - a good week and a half after the expedited item. I typically don't do business with anyone that shows such utter lack of concern for customer service, but even at $6.99 each, with the lastest Blue Notes available within 4-6 months of their release, I guess I'll stay on board. GA Russell Posted December 30, 2006 Author Report Posted December 30, 2006 So far so good for me. I ordered seven Christmas gifts on Dec. 5. One was backordered, and the other six arrived in four days. I've been a Your Music subscriber since Jan. of 2005, and the only problem I have had was my queue shipment of May, 2005, which never arrived. They made me wait 30 days to file a complaint. They then promptly shipped it again and that time it arrived in four days. On Oct. 29 of this year I ordered a birthday gift and I was told two days later that it was on backorder. So I cancelled that order and placed another for a different CD, which arrived in five days. Quote
GregK Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 My final 5.99 order is Bill Frisell/Ron Carter/Paul Motian Quote

I wasn't exaggerating when I said that the majority of my orders go "missing," but they are always replaced. I wonder if they are just being stolen in the mailroom. Quote

jazzbo Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 The last splurge I made included BBC recordings from Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green years) and Bowie, the newest Mendes reissues, the "Clapton" deluxe reissue, and the Waller and Weather Report boxsets. Quote
WD45 Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I picked up the new Mars Volta record, plus the Gil Evans Complete Pac Jazz and Jackie Mac's Demon's Dance. I considered clearing out my cart, but the holidays were a little rough on the wallet! Quote
Tom 1960 Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 As I said in another thread I made 3 purchases before the price increase. Bobby Hutcherson - Happenings Donald Byrd - Off To The Races Freddie Hubbard - Here To Stay I'm still waiting on the 3 Arthur Rubinstein discs which were apperently opened(2 of 3 discs missing) when they arrived at the local post office I work at. I sent the order back before Christmas, but nothing yet. Quote
J Larsen Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I received 18 of my 25 items today. Interestingly, the YourMusic site indicates that nothing has shipped yet. The shipping of the partial order was pretty fast (I did opt for express shipping), but the stale shipping data on the website don't exactly inspire confidence. Quote

GA Russell Posted January 5, 2007 Author Report Posted January 5, 2007 I received my Brasil '66 CD today, and the box was opened! What the heck is going on for all of us? Quote
