DMP Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 The CD era has been pretty good for Charlie Parker's discography - some new discoveries, most of the LP material has appeared. (Just got the Jirayr Zorthian's ranch CD, sounds better than I expected)... Is there anything that hasn't come out? Maybe the Barry Ulanov sessions? Anything to look forward to? Quote
John L Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 The Barry Ulanov (Bands for Bonds) sessions were released on CD on Bird's Eyes volume 17. if you take a look at the Charlie Parker discography, you will see that several known "private tapes" remain, although it is not clear to me if there is anything really major left. Of course, new recordings keep getting discovered. The recent Town Hall 1945 is the best example. Quote
kh1958 Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 I've never run across the Columbia LP "Summit Meeting at Birdland" on any CD. Quote
brownie Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Couple of 1953 Birdland gigs (the one with Bud Powell/Charles Mingus/Art Taylor/Candido and the one with the Max Roach Sextet with Sonny Stitt and Hank Mobley) still have not been released commercialy. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 I've never run across the Columbia LP "Summit Meeting at Birdland" on any CD. It has been on cd. . .from European CBS. Quote
Claude Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 (edited) That's a very interesting question. But as Bird died more than 50 years ago, all of his recodings are in public domain in Europe, so I don't think anything is missing on CD. Edited January 2, 2007 by Claude Quote
Tom in RI Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Hey Brownie, have you heard the 1953 date with Stitt, Mobley? Quote
brownie Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Yes! It's short and good. Some 13 minutes seem to have been preserved. The sound on the version I heard needs to be taken care of if it's to be released. Tapemachine noise is a bit bothersome! Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 *********NO*********** if some amateur bootleg trader tries to alter this w/ digital tape hiss remover ill be pissed: i have a lot of yes remastered bootlegs w/ digital tape hiss remover and it makes the rec. sound WORSE, cause you hear the noise reduction come on only at certain peaks in the music, so it sounds more like the tape is DROPPING OUT than actually reducing the noise. i say leave it as it is, unless it could be done under the most state of the art circumstances Quote
