Jazz Kat Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 (edited) What a fantastic pianist! I have his Give a Damn lp. I like it a lot. I especially love his playing. He swings and is very nice to listen to. In that respect he's similar to Guaraldi. My two favorite pianists. I want to get Herb Alpert Presents Pete Jolly, as well as all his other albums. Anybody heard some of those? Edited January 8, 2007 by Jazz Kat Quote
jazzbo Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I agree, he was a fantastic player. I have all the VSOP cds I believe I have them all. And a few others. He definitely swung like there was no tomorrow! Quote

Played it once and filed it with other albums I'm not really happy with! Much too tame piano paying. I keep his RCA (and other) albums. Quote

brownie Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 A favorite Pete Jolly moment is his accordion playing on 'My Man's Gone Now' from Buddy Collette's 'Modern Interpretations of Porgy & Bess' on Interlude. This was resurrected in a Jim Hall Lonehill CD 'The Unreleased Sessions'! Quote
Peter Friedman Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 One of the last recordings Pete Jolly made was a duo piano recording on Fresh Sound with the excellent Swedish pianist Jan Lundgren. It is titled COLLABORATION, and has Chuck Berghofer and Joe Labarbera on bass and drums. It's a marvelous CD. Quote
