bertrand Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Wayne Shorter turns 70 today. What an amazing career he has had. Think of all the different artists he has worked with (from Blakey and Miles to Joni Mitchell) and of the consistent brilliance and originality of most of his recorded output. I think only Miles comes close, and, honestly, I find Miles more inconsistent. And, at 70, Wayne is still going strong. He put out two great records in the last two years, and continues his off-and-on tour with his current quartet which has been together for over two years. Happy birthday, Wayne! Bertrand. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 70?? My God, he's a quarter of a century older than I, and I still have this picture in my mind of the young guy in Mile's quintet... Quote
JohnJ Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Happy birthday Wayne. Without a doubt my favourite living tenor, and maybe composer too. Still disappointed that I was out of town for the Tokyo Jazz Festival last August when he appeared with Herbie Hancock. Quote
BFrank Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 I just discovered a great Wayne session on a Bobby Timmons disk called "Workin' Out". It's 2 sessions, actually, and Wayne is on the second one. It's from 1966 with Timmons, Ron Carter and Jimmy Cobb. Definitely worth checking out. Quote
