Late Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 What set do you all recommend seeking out to optimally hear NORK? Now that it's back in-print, I had my eye on the Retrieval, but thought I would ask here first. Quote
ghost of miles Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 (edited) If it's the same one I'm thinking of (2-CD "Complete"), yes. Leon Roppolo on "Tin Roof Blues" always sends me... Edited February 13, 2007 by ghost of miles Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Same here. Glad to see it back in print. Quote
Late Posted February 14, 2007 Author Report Posted February 14, 2007 Retrieval also just re-reissued The Complete 1932 Rhythm Makers set. Argh — I want that one too! The only place on the internet I can find these new reissues, however, is Worlds Records. They're a fine e-tailer, but their prices aren't the best. Quote
Late Posted February 14, 2007 Author Report Posted February 14, 2007 Here are details on the NORK set. Quote
John L Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 I have the Retrieval set, and it is definitely a sonic improvement relative to what I had before: Chronological Classics. Chronological Classics does include some different music: tracks by the group headed by Wingy Manone that used the name New Orleans Rhythm Kings for a while. Quote
BruceH Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 I always thought their name made for one of the best band-acronyms ever. Quote
Late Posted February 16, 2007 Author Report Posted February 16, 2007 I always thought their name made for one of the best band-acronyms ever. Yep, die-hard fans are called NORK dorks. Quote
king ubu Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Note sure I'll be ending up as a NORK dork yet, but I just snagged this up cheaply (from JPC) and am looking forward to hearing it! Quote
