Rooster_Ties Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 (edited) Is this everything?? And is this in the right chronological order? Chronicle: The Complete Prestige Recordings 1951-'56 Miles Davis/John Coltrane: The Complete Columbia Studio Recordings Miles Davis/Gil Evans: The Complete Columbia Studio Recordings Miles Davis - In Person Friday And Saturday Nights At The Blackhawk, Complete Seven Steps: The Complete Columbia Recordings Of Miles Davis 1963-1964 The Complete Live At The Plugged Nickel - 1965 Miles Davis Quintet 1965-'68: The Complete Columbia Studio Sessions Complete In A Silent Way Sessions Complete Bitches Brew Sessions Miles Davis - The Cellar Door Sessions 1970 The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions On The Corner & Beyond (complete) - what's the name of this one gonna be, remind me again?? The Complete Miles Davis at Montreux: 1973-1991 The Last Word - The Warner Bros. years (complete) Miles Davis: The Columbia Years 1955-1985 (added per the suggestion below) I only own, and the only Miles Davis album I ever need to own -- is Kind of Blue I do NOT own ANY Miles Davis albums I know a couple of these aren't actually available (the "On The Corner" box is not yet available -- and the "Warner Brothers" one got pulled, and never was released except as promos only), but they represent eras of time in Miles' career, so I'm gonna include them in the poll anyway, with an explaination why. Gonna create this poll on the Steve Hoffman forum, just for the hell of it. No idea where the thread will go, but there's so many people there - I figure it might give some perspective on THEIR perspective on Miles. PS: Or should I break down the Prestige material into the mini boxes that have recently (and are presumably gonna come out soon)?? I have to admit I haven't followed the details of them, as that's not an era in Miles career that I've followed too closely in years. Edited February 22, 2007 by Rooster_Ties Quote
kenny weir Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Miles Davis: The Columbia Years 1955-1985 Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 Well, yeah, I guess there is that one too. I guess I'll toss it into the very end of the list, since it doesn't really have a single stylistic angle. But better to include it, especially on a poll on a board without a jazz focus, cuz that might be the one a surprising number of people have, actually. Quote
kenny weir Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 In terms of that board, you might just be spot on. Of course, I'm sure you don't wanna go where all those scuzzy cheapo boxes are. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 (edited) You know, maybe I'll also include an "I only own, and the only Miles Davis album I ever need to own -- is Kind of Blue" option in the poll. Cuz THAT might be interesting to know too. PS: And one more poll option... "I do NOT own ANY Miles Davis albums" Edited February 22, 2007 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 Here's a link to the thread/poll I just started on the Steve Hoffman Forum... Force-rank the various MILES DAVIS boxes you own, in the order in which you like them Quote
brownie Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 This recently released box might have been included too: Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 TOTO: the complete "fareignhight" sessions: featuring Miles Davis, David Sandborn, and Michael McDonald (no joke- bought this album on tape for $.10 last night!!!) Quote
Aggie87 Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 I think you forgot the Legendary Prestige Quintet Sessions box that came out last year. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 Yeah, I thought about including the Prestige mini-box, but since it completely overlaps with the "big daddy" Prestige box, I just went with that. The boxes were supposed to represent different eras in Miles' career as the poll and related thread developed - so that made more sense in the end. Quote
Aggie87 Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 It doesn't completely overlap, though. The 4th disc is comprised of material that was never before released and isn't available elsewhere. So if your question "Is this everything?" still stands, this box would need to be included. Quote
John L Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 All I know is that I wouldn't mind boxing ashlee5 into my set. Quote
Aggie87 Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Also missed: Miles Davis - In Stockholm 1960 (4 disc box on Dragon) Quote
sidewinder Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 (edited) Does vinyl count? If so, you can add the French CBS 3LP set 'The Essential Miles Davis'. The one with the groovy velveteen cover and bonus 45rpm 'Great Expectations'. Edited February 22, 2007 by sidewinder Quote
sheldonm Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 ...well, I guess that's the end of this topic? Quote
