Head Man Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I've recently been playing the four CDs I have on the Postcards label: Bruce Ditmas - What if Steve Kuhn - Seasons of romance Reggie Workman - Cerebral Caverns & Summit Conference and was reminded of how good they were. So I thought I'd see what else was available on the same label and was surprised that I couldn't seem to find any information about the label on the web. I then looked on Amazon and found about a dozen releases still available but most of them have fairly lukewarm reviews on AMG (no surprise there!) So, two questions: 1. Does anyone have a link to a discography for the label? and 2. Can anyone recommend any of the releases? Quote
Guy Berger Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I've been meaning to pick up Summit Conference for a while... is Cerebral Caverns equally good? Guy Quote
brownie Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I 1. Does anyone have a link to a discography for the label? Et voila, Guy! Postcards CD Homepage Quote
Eric Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 (edited) I once owned the Priester/Rivers CD. It sounds like a "can't miss", but sadly it does and pretty badly. The problem (IIRC) was the use of some sort of eletronics - not electronic instruments - that really detracted from the music. In this case, the AMG review (which I just read) is pretty accurate. The Chip White is a keeper. The Land is a strings date and is OK, but I am not a big "with strings" fan - some might be more impressed. Edited February 24, 2007 by Eric Quote
BFrank Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I've had "Summit Conference" for a while. I haven't listened to it as much as I should, but it's a solid session, that's for sure. Can't go wrong with Reggie Workman, Andrew Hill, Sam Rivers, Julian Priester and Pheeroan Aklaff. Quote
JSngry Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I like the Rivers/Priester myself. They use the electronics in an organic fashion, I think. Quote
