I just ordered "texas twister' and own the blue note 2disc with his three BN albums. My favorite probably being "Shoutin". But all 3 are great!

So What do ya think of Don? Favorite album?

Please excuse me if there has already been a thread on him (can't seem to get the search function to work)

Texas Twister is my favorite.

Mine too, by far.

The BN's are OK (and enjoyable in their own way), but if I suddenly had to liquidate half my collection, I'd get rid of all three of the BN's before I'd even THINK of gettin' rid of Texas Twister.

It's one of those recordings I've been known to take to listening parties (i.e., "you GOTTA hear this one").

The first cut on side one slays me every time. I've listened to that track all by itself (on repeat), on at least a couple occasions.

Put me down for Texas Twister, too. That bad boy cooks!

Although - the BNs are of such different intent that it's really not fair to comapre them straight up. Also, if you only hear one w/o hearing the other, your impression of Don Wilkerson is going to be woefully incomplete.

Got all 4 of them on the original vinyl (and the Conn 2CD) but 'Shoutin' (with BJP and Grant Green) and 'Texas Twister' on Riverside are my faves. Nothing very demanding/groundbreaking but very pleasurable listens.

I love this guy! I have Japanese CDs of the Blue Notes. My favorite is "Preach Brother", because of the presence of the classic rhythm team of Sonny Clark, Butch Warren and Billy Higgins, They are called upon to do something a little different here, and they do it so well. The last track, with the vamp, is great, and the album really grows on you with each listening. The JRVG of this album sounds real good.
