Hardbopjazz Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 I heard a recording of George Shearing live in Berlin from 1989. Anyone know the title of this session? I really liked it. It is with vocals drums and bass. Here are the tracks. Start all over again. Unknown Title. Lullaby of Birdland. Donna Lee. The Way You Look Tonight. Since I fell for You. All God Children. Love is just the corner. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Sounds like it may have been a broadcast rather than a commercial release. Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 I may still have the 1989 year of the German JAZZ PODIUM mag. These are stowed away in a box of fleamarket items but I will check things out tonight and see if I can find mention of his tour, including maybe his backing musicians. Quote

Ted O'Reilly Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 I've just heard from Neil Swainson (he's been on the road with Roberta Gambarini, and the irrepressible Jake Hanna): Hi Ted FYI, just days before the Berlin Wall came down. I played a concert at the Berlin Philharmonie with George Shearing, Mel Torme, and Donny Osborne. Hmmm, I don't recall a recording! Neil Maybe Mel took the cheque from the broadcaster, promising to pass it on to the band... Quote
