A new Tristano double CD including the long unavailable *Descent into the Maelstrom* has been issued in Europe. It seems unfortunate that those holding the master have not made this public in the US (along with unreleased material). One wonders what Jazz Records is waiting for.

Descent into the Maelstrom has/has been on cd in the US, through the Tristano family cd label I believe. . . .

It's also appeared from Japan.

It's a shame that now that these sessions and so many others appear from European labels as the material falls out of copyright there. . .we're not likely to see editions from the "owners."

Do you have the link to this new release? "Descent" is a classic, I have the japanese reissue on CD from some years ago.

Does anyone own this cd:

Lennie Tristano - Manhattan Studio (JR11CD)

How's the sound quality?

I own the download version from eMusic. The sound quality seems clear, at least on the car stereos/computer speakers/mini systems I've listened to it on. And the music is startling.

In 2007, Naxos/Storyville released Tristano's 1965 Tivoli Gardens concert on DVD. (It's since been booted by Improjazz with additional footage. Try to buy the Naxos edition!) If you think you know Tristano, buy this DVD. It will mess you up. Dissonance never sounded so beautiful. It's truly a wonder to see Tristano's hands. I can't even make out some of the extended/altered/chromatic chords he's playing.

I bought my copy from Tower for $10.86. One of the best musical DVDs I own.

Highly recommended.

Yes, that's an excellent DVD.
