I just heard that Bob Altschuler has passed away--haven't found an obit, yet. I knew Bob fairly well when I was doing work for Columbia and CBS/Sony, but I must be frank and say that he was not someone I wished to know outside of the business. Bob may well have had one of the largest private collections of 78 rpm jazz extant.

Nothing really bad about Altschuler mentioned yet. Chris said he didn't like him and I (with less experience) said he seemed "gruff".

Unless something else surfaces we should respect his many years of work, regret the inevitable death and leave it at that.

Bob Altschuler was very helpful when I was writing articles a long time ago and needed to get material (and albums) that were very hard to obtain in pre-internet days.

He was working at Riverside then and could not have been nicer.

Sad to hear he is no longer with us!
