Dr. Duckworth, I listened to your show today.  Thank you, it was great!  Setting aside the Halloween content - which was perfect - I honestly don't listen to much jazz from this era, so it was a refreshing change.  I loved the Ellington, Nat Cole, Emmett Miller, and Billie Holiday.  The audio on some of those tunes was much better than I would have expected, and I was listening only on computer speakers.  Whenever I hear younger Louis Armstrong sing, I am always amazed at how much he sounds like Louis Prima, or vice-versa, really.

And I'm jealous that you are in Memphis.  I am overdue for a visit!

If I can find it, I’ll give ‘Haunted Ballroom’ from this one a spin. Featuring spooky WW2 drum solo by prodigy wonder-kind Victor F. with Glenn Miller’s AAFB.

I'll look for this on the InterTubes!

Posting this a bit early, since the holiday's coming up this weekend: Night Lights in the key of screeeech, with stalking monsters, road-weary Draculas, and the true tale of the jazz-loving New Orleans Mysterious Axman all part of this week's Halloween celebration.  (As well as an early Gil Evans arrangement)

Thank you so much for the kind words, sir.  Here is a bit of Louis Prima, with Pee Wee Russell, coming in at the 11th hour.

Well, another Halloween has come and gone, so we will be putting this thread away until next October.

In the meantime, please remember, as Johnny Mathis told us, that the secret of Halloween is not the things you do at Halloween time, but the Halloween things you do the whole year through.
