Here are four among a couple of batches that I had already purchased some time back on Ebay that I finally got a chance to listen to. I was really pleased with and would recommend each one of them. All of them still appear to be available via the Concord site as of now if you're still looking for something to toss into your cart.

"South side soul" is such a beautiful album. Wright has such a lovely touch. I wish there were more than three of his Prestige albums out on CD.

MG

I'd agree with you on that one MG, it's a gem. I was hooked on it from the opening number.

I've got 'South Side Soul' and 'Makin' Out'. Both great! but i like Makin' Out much much more, as it includes a tenor and is just a burner!

Wish I had "Makin' out"!

"Mr soul" OJC and "Nice & tasty" recent cheap reissue by JVC (same release you bought a number of other things from Hiroshi) are both lovely trio albums.

MG

There's a copy of John Wright's "Mr. Soul" currently available (as of this writing) for a reasonable price at the web address below if anyone is interested. You're likely to pay twice the price found on that site if you were to find it anywhere else. Now where can I get a copy of "Nice 'N' Tasty" for a decent price? ;)

Broke down and got these. I have most of these as emusic mp3s already, but they're favorites and most are fairly hard (and expensive) to find elsewhere. I'm sure I'll order again in a few weeks.

Perhaps I'm confused, but this seems like the most ridiculous promo ever:

-----------------------------

Monterey Jazz Festival Special!

For a limited time, buy any 5 artist-featured MJF titles and get the

MJF Sampler FREE!

Save now at

http://www.concordmusicgroup.com/promos/monterey/

Free shipping on orders over $50

(US shipping addresses only)

(Est. 2007) To celebrate the Festival's 50th Anniversary, the

Monterey Jazz Festival and Concord Records partnered together in 2007 to

form Monterey Jazz Festival Records in order to present some of the

finest, never-before-released performances from the Festival's storied

past.

-----------------------------

Since there are only five releases in the MJF program, if I buy five, I've got 'em all. So what good's a sampler...other than as a Christmas present.

I realize it says 'artist-featured MJF...', but I'll be damned if I know what that means. Like, I buy a Diz and a Satch that aren't in the MJF series, I get the sampler? The term isn't defined anywhere that I can see.

Does Concord have pretty good customer service? My (10-CD) order contained Stan Getz's "Pure Getz" instead of the Junior Mance CD I ordered. I sent them an email and received an auto-reply indicating the offices were going to be closed until 1/2/08 and that they wouldn't be responding to emails until then. It's kind of a drag having to send things back. I'm sure the Getz CD is a good one and that I'd enjoy it but I already have a lot of Getz and would prefer the Jr. Mance. Does anyone here have experience with order mix-ups? Do they send a postage paid label for the return or ask that I pay postage and credit me?

There appear to be some things on the sampler that aren't on the released discs- like the Joe Henderson, Jimmy Witherspoon and Pat Metheny cuts. I wonder if there is to be another set of releases with the complete performances?

For those who are interested, lots of titles seem to be disappearing. Although orders can still be placed online, they won't be processing any more orders until January 2nd, so who knows what will be available by then (i.e., get your orders in sooner rather than later).

I've been "collecting," on and off, the OJC Limited Editions, figuring that some of them are the least likely to be re-released in the future. I was putting a list together earlier and was shocked to realize that I have over 80 of them now. Most of them I've never seen in the stores.

Take a look on Amazon and see the prices being asked for many of them by Marketplace sellers.

I picked up a lot of them during the last Concord sale for 3 bucks a pop. They've wised up this time around and aren't giving them away again. Even so, I've noticed that quite a few of them have disappeared from the site just within the last day or so. I've also noticed that for some titles, Amazon Marketplace merchants like Newbury Comics seem to have fairly large quantities (30 or so) in stock. I wonder if some of the merchants have been buying out Concord's stock of the OP titles (seems like that happened during the last sale).

Wow, you're right. Of the ten I ordered just a few days ago (and thankfully they've all shipped!) the following starred ones are now unavailable...

OJCCD-1922-2 Change Of Pace

*OJCCD-1902-2 Studio Jazz Party

*OJCCD-1871-2 The Quota

*OJCCD-1914-2 Metamorphosis

*OJCCD-1839-2 The Chant

*OJCCD-1796-2 Tiny In Swingville

*OJCCD-1868-2 The Hap'nin's

OJCCD-1849-2 Roamin' With Richardson

*OJCCD-1806-2 Asia Minor

*OJCCD-1869-2 Glidin' Along

Wow! Glad I ordered those when I did!

I missed out on those 2. :( I was able to get some others (already received) that are now gone, though. I put in another order tonight for some that still show up on the site, but who knows if they'll really be there by the time Concord starts processing orders again on January 2nd.
