Chuck Nessa Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Fun, great and sad. Thanks for the link. Quote
Christiern Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Thanks, Lonson, for posting that wonderful (for me) nostalgia trip. Teo was a breath of fresh air in my days at Columbia and I had nothing but admiration for him--that admiration is now heightened by his frankness in this documentary. BTW, his secretary was Dave Chertok's wife, and his office adjoined John Hammond's--but the two men were as different as day and night. Quote
paul secor Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Enjoyed the clip. Wonder if Teo edited the film? Quote
AndrewHill Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Interesting. I wonder how Miles felt about Teo negotiating his gig as Miles! Quote
Christiern Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 One of the audio engineers at Columbia called Teo and had him fooled with a Miles imitation. BTW, Bob Weinstock did a pretty good Miles imitation, too. Quote
Shawn Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 That was GREAT! I remember seeing that footage of Monk in the Straight, No Chaser film. Quote
JSngry Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Teo...ain't no slouch. If CD Baby is still offering all the stuff he put out on his own label, I recommend y'all check it out. There's some pretty darn good stuff there that kinda comes out of nowhere. Quote
Chas Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 While Teo's contribution to jazz is secure ( notwithstanding occasional misgivings over the judiciousness of some of his editing ) , I feel he could have made quite a contribution to the music as an instrumentalist had he stayed on that path . He had an original conception on the tenor , tonally , harmonically and dynamically . At times his tone combined with his lyricism to give his lines an ethereal , diaphanous quality . I count him among those who , while rooted in Prez , managed to speak with an original voice . Quote

I still suggest perusing these titles: http://cdbaby.com/found?allsearch=%22teo+m...p;submit=search A discographical mess, they are, and packaging is...casual. But there's some very good stuff in there. Quote
