clifford_thornton
I'd love to get a tattoo of the front cover image from Spiritual Unity. But it'd be more pertinent, I guess, if I played the horn...

AndrewHill
I'd love to get a tattoo of the front cover image from Spiritual Unity. Oh hell yeah! Of course, no one outside the jazz world would get it Don't have any tattoos, but if I was going to get one it would be a toss up of either Brotzmann's Machine Gun cover or Sun Ra's Jazz in Silhouette. robviti
i was doing a search of the board and came across this old thread. i don't know how i missed it, except maybe for the fact that it apparently garnered very little interest among board members. anyway, i thought i'd mention the fact that i have the black saint records logo tattooed on my back. i am soooo cool. JSngry
I "understand" a lot of "non-traditional" behaviors, and have even participated in some that I didn't understand, but doggone it, the whole tattoo thing eludes me. Completely.
7/4
My 30 somethin' nephew has my dad & grandfather's GI photos tattooed on his pecs. Not musical, just strange. dB
Uncle Skid
I don't understand it, either, but that doesn't stop me from fantasizing about Kat Von D putting that picture of Braxton from "3 Compositions of New Jazz" on my back, does it?? robviti
what's "non-traditional" about a practice that is at least 5,000 years old? if you mean that tattoos are "unconventional" or "beyond the norm," consider this: a harris poll in 2003 revealed that 16% of people in the united states have at least one tattoo. at the same time, jazz records account for less than 2 percent of all cd sales. so i ask you, who is engaging in non-traditional behavior, people who get tattoos or people who buy jazz? of course, this means i'm a total freak because i do both.
