Brownian Motion Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 The New York Times Printer Friendly Format Sponsored By January 29, 2008 Man Rides Lawn Mower to Liquor Store By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 12:49 p.m. ET ADRIAN, Mich. (AP) -- A man was charged with drunken driving after going through two bottles of wine, cutting through a snowstorm on his lawn mower and riding down the center of the street to reach a liquor store, authorities said. Police found Frank Kozumplik, 49, homeward bound on a John Deere tractor Saturday night, toting four bottles of wine in a paper bag, officials said. He told officers that his wife had taken their car to work, and that the mower was the only way he could reach the store, two miles from home. His blood alcohol level was 2 1/2 times Michigan's legal driving limit of 0.08 percent, police told WLEN-FM. They arrested him and confiscated the mower. Kozumplik declined to comment Monday night. paul secor Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Wonder if they'll suspend his mowing license? Quote
7/4 Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Sounds like The Straight Story by David Lynch, but I don't remember anything about booze in the movie. Quote

Shawn Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Drunken driving on a lawn mower...hmmm...boy, I'm sure he could do ALOT of damage to someone at a top speed of probably 3 miles per hour....they should have given him the wine and a pat on the back for his ingenuity. Quote
Neal Pomea Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Wish I could have driven up alongside him in a golf cart and asked "Have you any Grey Poupon?" Quote

vajerzy Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I've seen that more than once in Richmond- actually going to a convenience store. Quote
Tim McG Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 (edited) What gets me is the woman who called 911 because she said she was too drunk to drive home. When nobody responded she got back to her house only to be cited for DUI on her front porch. Now I don't mind saying so, but isn't that more than just a little unfair? Kinda like double dipping: We want you to be safe and then responsible for your drinking, but we're going to bust your ass anyway? WTF is that? Edited January 30, 2008 by GoodSpeak Quote

Tim McG Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Beavis and Butthead are cartoon characters. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 How come shit like this always seems to happen in Michigan? The lawn mower dude, the 9-1-1 drunk lady, being banned from a buffet... Time for you guys in Texas to pull some crazy newsworthy stunt... Aggie, you're up! Quote
Aggie87 Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Hey, we already gave you Dubya, Crazy Astronaut Lady, and Aggies! Isn't that enough?? Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 What does Aggie mean? I thought it was just a name... MG Quote
vajerzy Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 "Aggie" is the school name for Texas A&M University. Frankly- I have no idea what an "Aggie" is- and I use the term alot in discussing sports. Quote
sidewinder Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I always thought this was 'Aggie' Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 So A&M means Agriculture and Mops MG Quote
MoGrubb Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I wonder, if he hadn't been drunk, carrying wine if they'd still have confiscated the mower, etc. I mean, driving in the middle of the road, in a blinding snow storm doesn't seem all that outlandish. Snow was probably piled up so that it was the only access he had to the road. Quote
