Quincy Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Why did they allow Boggs to wear a Yankee cap when he went into the Hall with a Red Sox cap??? I think it was up to the player, as it should be. I like how Winfield had both a Padres & a Yankee hat. And where was Joe Morgan? Where was Bench & Fisk? Maybe Fisk couldn't figure out which hat to wear. Rhyne Sandburg, It's Ryne Sandberg. Bad backup Cubs fan. I thought it was funny what a meek reaction Robin Yount got from the crowd. You could practically see him thinking "c'mon, 3000 hits, 2 time MVP, remember me?" Quote

Dan Gould Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 A-Rod's new nickname = Stray-Rod You're a year late with that one, pal. The NY tabloids gave him that name when he was photographed with the she-male stripper last year. Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 for a game that started out as a major snooze, the last half was pretty good. I gave up and went to bed at 12:30 AM, and now that I see how much longer it took, I'm glad I did. I really am kind of torn about the whole result though: My number one outcome is for the Cubs to win - and not having home field could definitely effect that. My number two result is for the Sox to repeat, and this helps them. But on the other hand, since they seem to think "sweep" with every WS lately, the last outcome I'd like to see is for them to clinch at Fenway. So this could make it tougher. Quote
skeith Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Why did they allow Boggs to wear a Yankee cap when he went into the Hall with a Red Sox cap??? I mean seriously. Yeah, its Yankee Stadium. But he's there as a living member of the Hall of Fame, and he went into the Hall wearing a Red Sox cap. Yankee fans were going to cheer him anyway, and he should have been forced to wear the cap that is on the plaque. I always thought he was an asshole anyway. And where was Joe Morgan? He's not working the game, even if ESPN is going to have him on the post-game coverage, he had no duties for Fox. I'll bet that incredibly stupid old asshole boycotted it, because he would have been introduced alongside Rhyne Sandburg, a man he desperately tried to keep out of the Hall, and when he failed, for the only time in memory, he didn't show up the induction ceremony. I laugh at that fucker almost every week on the Fire Joe Morgan site, but I really hate him for being a classless piece of shit. At least when Youk was introduced, you couldn't be sure if it was "boo" or "Youk" they were yelling. Pedroia and Manny, not so much. My impression and that of several other NYers was that they booed or heckled every single Red Sox player except when JD Drew came through and clobbered one. And Papelbon really got razzed by the rabid Yankee fans WHILE HE IS TRYING TO DO HIS JOB (and yes I am aware of the conroversy.) Must admit I thought it was assinine, do Yankee fans hate the Red Sox so much that they want the NL team to have home field for the Series? Welcome to NY. Quote

I don't think so But take a look at the woman (his wife?) accompanying Lou Piniella during yesterday's all star parade. Quote
Neal Pomea Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 I think home field advantage in the World Series should be determined by which league did better against the other league in interleague competition at the end of the regular season. Having it all rest on an exhibition game like the All Star game is fairly ridiculous to me. Quote

I'm old school...the team with the best record should be given home field, IMHO. Quote
Tim McG Posted July 16, 2008 Author Report Posted July 16, 2008 BTW...over the weekend I read an LA Times article wherein they pointed out Tim Lincecum's velocity has diminished. Yeah, he's only throwing 91 mph FBs as opposed to 97 mph FBs Idiots. Quote

Having it all rest on an exhibition game like the All Star game is fairly ridiculous to me. Then why should a few inconsequential results in June make the difference? A crappy team like the Royals beat good teams in the NL - that makes the AL superior? I think the smarter move would be awarding it to the team with the best record, and have those team's interleague results be the tie-breaker. You'd have the problem of each playing different opponents, but its a stronger basis than overall results, methinks. I do agree that basing it on the results of an exhibitiion is pretty foolish though. Quote

Uh, 91 is major league average FB. 91 gets hit if its in the wrong place. 97 doesn't get hit as often, whether its in the wrong place or the right place. Quote

BERIGAN Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 And I wasn't going to be able to watch the ASG live, so I DVR'ed it...even was smart enough to set it up for an hour later than it was scheduled, what with all the pre game stuff and all....and It still cut off in the 12th! And the NL lost....again. I'm old enough to remember feeling sorry for the AL and wishing they'd win just one...enough already!!! Quote
papsrus Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 I'm on board with the team with the best record having home-field advantage. Imagine a scenario where a dominant team from the AL plays an average team from the NL and that average NL team has home-field advantage (or visa versa). ... Course, if one team was so much better than the other, shouldn't make that much difference in the end anyways ... so ... ah, forget it. Quote
tkeith Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Joe Torre and Jack McKeon were interviewed together prior to the All-Star game the year after they met up in the WS. Joe: "Well, we're gonna try to win and hopefully wrap up home-field advantage for the World Series." Jack: "Yeah, how'd that work out for ya?" Quote

Baseball is supposed to be the ultimate team sport, but home-field advantage goes to the league that does better in an exhibition game with players that by definition aren't going to have any chemistry. Stupid idea. Quote

Dan Gould Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 You might also consider that there are a lot of people in those stands not even born when those guys ended their careers. They are just another old guy on the field, clinging to past glory. That's not how me, my wife or my brothers or father would look at it, but that is how it is. Quote

skeith Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 so game # 1 of the series will be at the jake? It's been a while since you have been in Cleveland SS1. It has been called Progressive Field since the beginning of the season and regrettably it is not looking like there will be any Series for the Tribe this year. Quote

papsrus Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 I vote to just boycott the corporate names altogether and go with Cleveland Field, Giants Park, etc. Quote
