Shawn Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Very cool. I remember reading about that one and being curious. Mike Fitzgerald would be the one to ask about this album. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Despite the headline, it ISN'T a Duke Pearson record. It was recorded 4 years after he died. It's just a college band with a guest artist playing some Duke Pearson tunes. That's what it says, isn't it? Why would it have value to anyone but members of the band? Probably pressed a thousand copies, sold 165 to friends and family: it's a souvenir, a vanity record... Stamm was on the original Pearson discs on BlueNote--why not seek them out and hear the masters play, rather than get worked up about amateurs? Quote

Daniel A Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Allen, I hadn't noticed...is it auto-coupled, do you suppose? 1 & 4, 2 & 3... Never understood why they didn't make them 1 & 3, 2 & 4 so that you could play everything without interruption. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Allen, I hadn't noticed...is it auto-coupled, do you suppose? 1 & 4, 2 & 3... Never understood why they didn't make them 1 & 3, 2 & 4 so that you could play everything without interruption. If it's 1 & 4, 2 & 3, then you can play everything without interruption. All you need do is turn the pile over and the rest are in the correct order for uninterrrupted playing. Rev C L Franklin's many 6 part sermons before the LP era were 1/6, 2/5, 3/4. So, when you put them on for play, you'd have them like this: 3 - 4 2 - 5 1 - 6 Side 1 would play first, then 2, then 3. Then you'd turn the pile upside down and it would look like this 6 - 1 5 - 2 4 - 3 so the second half of the sermon would play in the correct order. MG Quote
Daniel A Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Thanks for clearing this out, MG. I always thought these sets were designed for people with two record players. Then the only way to get continuous playback would have been 1/3 + 2/4. Never thought of a record changer. As for the Pearson tribute album, it's actually not very good. Quote
AllenLowe Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 actually, if you play the outside groove, you hear someone say "Duke is dead Duke is dead Duke is dead" Quote
