ghost of miles Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 (edited) I'm working on a Dolphy Night Lights show and have posted this news on the program site, along with a short video clip of Dolphy playing with Don Ellis and Benny Golson at a NY Philharmonic concert for kids circa February 1964. Hot Ptah Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Is there any information available on the musicians interviewed by Morton for the book? Quote
ghost of miles Posted May 20, 2008 Author Report Posted May 20, 2008 All I've found so far is what's in that Equinox listing--I'll try to check around and see if I can dig anything else up. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 I recall a BBC Jazz file series on Dolphy about ten years ago - about 5 30 minute programmes. I'm almost sure Morton did those. He's also done a more recent programme for Alyn Shipton's Jazz Library programme. He appears to be a strong enthusiast. Quote
ghost of miles Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 Yes, I also came across that recent Jazz Library program and wanted to link to the audio, but it appears you can't get the podcast if you're outside of the UK. Quote

I think you can listen on the listen again facility (I'm sure I've read Statesiders comment about the programmes) - but only for 7 days after broadcast which is the same here. Podcasts are probably UK only. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 It will be interesting to read the Dolphy bio when it is finally out. Simosko's is okay but a little thin. Quote
ghost of miles Posted June 5, 2015 Author Report Posted June 5, 2015 Amazon now has this listed for publication in October: http://www.amazon.com/Gone-Air-Dolphy-Popular-History/dp/1845531655 Quote
colinmce Posted June 5, 2015 Report Posted June 5, 2015 Wow, I missed this the first time around. This will absolutely be worth a read. Quote
ghost of miles Posted June 5, 2015 Author Report Posted June 5, 2015 Yes, I'm pretty excited about it as well. BTW here's the completed Dolphy Night Lights show that I was working on when I first came across mention of Morton's bio: http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/dolphy-64/ Quote
mjazzg Posted June 5, 2015 Report Posted June 5, 2015 Only 192 pages. Seems light to me but I enjoy Morton's writing so will wait and see what he does with the pages Quote

AllenLowe Posted June 5, 2015 Report Posted June 5, 2015 (edited) love that clip; and compare Golson, so harmonically hip, to Dexter's bland lines if you want to know why I have so little use for Gordon. Edited June 5, 2015 by AllenLowe Quote
