JSngry Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 No way! OTOH.... Who is this "Raven Screen" who wrote the waaaaay out-there liner notes? I smell David Himmelstein! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Sounds like a Richard Alderson recording to me. You are probably right about Himmelstein too. Quote
Stereojack Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 No way! OTOH.... Who is this "Raven Screen" who wrote the waaaaay out-there liner notes? I smell David Himmelstein! Original LP credits Richard Alderson as engineer. I know that Dan Morgenstern wrote some notes under pseudonyms during this period (when he was editor of Down Beat), but these notes don't sound like Dan. Quote
mjzee Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 There was some discussion about this on the old BNBB. Someone from "The Rudy Van Gelder Project" posted that Fantasy, on many CD reissues, simply listed RVG as the engineer and studio without checking; he got them to see the error of their ways, and they afterwards ceased doing so. The postings then went on to mention the sad piano used on many Alderson recordings. I wonder what happened to "The RVG Project," meant to list every recording done by RVG. Quote
bertrand Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 His name is Dan Skea. I was in touch with him and gave him a little bit of info, but we lost touch. He never migrated over from the BNBB. Bertrand. Quote
bertrand Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Googling Dan Skea, I found out: 1) He moved from Vegas to Vermont and is actively playing and recording (CDs on CD Baby) 2) I found this article: http://www.seanemulholland.com/brian/BlueNotePaper.pdf which mentions this board, as well as the legendary Lee Morgan/Webster Young/Evolution thread. Interesting. Bertrand. Quote
JSngry Posted December 1, 2008 Author Report Posted December 1, 2008 In what sense did he "move to Vermont"? Quote
