I just got the new Artie Shaw Hep (the 2-CD set of 1945 Spotlight broadcasts) and noted several solos from tenor saxophonist Herbie Steward, whom I know mostly from his Four Brothers stint with Herman. Any recommendations from Organissimo posters for other sides featuring Steward?

For later Steward, there was an LP on Famous Door (which may have been reissued on CD).

I recall also having an LP of his on Ava -- more of an "easy listening" session as I recall.

there is also a session with herbie stewart on clarinet and tenor from june 1945 with the barney kessel´s all-stars and the wonderful dodo marmarosa on piano. i have this on the french classic 1165 "dodo marmarosa".

This 1945 session was originally on Atomic and vinyl geeks will find it on "Central Avenue Breakdown Vol.2" (Onyx 215).

Herbie Steward solos on almost every track here.

Herbie Steward recorded 2 discs for the Marshmallow label in his closing years.  Both are good -- one with Gene DiNovi, another with Sir Charles Thompson (and recorded on live!).
