sheldonm Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 http://www.freep.com/article/20090318/ENT0...sings+the+blues ...that would be a drag. I spend 3 or 4 days there photographing the 70th anniversary of the club...had a great time. m Quote
Hot Ptah Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 That would be awful if it had to close. It is a great place to hear music. I have fond memories of going there to see Dexter Gordon, Joe Williams, Betty Carter, Mongo Santamaria, and Pat Metheny/Dewey Redman/Charlie Haden/Paul Motian. It is a nice place with all seats close to the stage. Quote
GregK Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Don't forget, Organissimo has played there too. I wish I could have gone. Quote

Lazaro Vega Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Caught Mose Allison at that icon of a Detroit jazz club. Quote
ejp626 Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 My mom used to live in Ferndale, probably walking distance to Baker's maybe 15 years ago. I was a little into jazz at the time, enough to go to the Detroit Jazz Fest, but not enough to seek out Baker's. Too bad. If she was still living there, I would definitely make it in at least once. connoisseur series500 Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Don't forget, Organissimo has played there too. I wish I could have gone. We heard them there once. Saw Organissimo twice over there, which represented the only two times I had been there. Nice place. Sorry to hear the news, and I hope they can somehow survive. It's a bit of a haul from my place.
