relyles Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Firehouse 12 is a great place to hear music. Quote
AllenLowe Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 I lived in New Haven for 20 years, as soon as I leave they get a place like that - Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Sounds like a fantastic scene. Quote
fasstrack Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 The funny thing is that young man Julian Lage is a pretty straight ahead player (unless he changed). He started out, I think, winning blues contests, very talented with a stage father. I heard some recent recordings. Very nice and I don't know if he's even hit 20 yet. Never been to the Firehouse, but I rarely venture to Brooklyn these days. I figure I paid my dues: 31 years there---in Canarsie, no less----was enough Quote
fasstrack Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Oops. Why did I think Brooklyn? Fuhgeddaboutit........... Quote
relyles Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Not all of the performances at Firehouse 12 are really avant garde. For example, last Friday Jimmy Greene appeared with his quartet. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 They do a nice job with CDs and recording - hope to make it to the performance space at some point. Looking forward to the Dixon set, of course. Quote
PHILLYQ Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 I bought a couple of their discs(Taylor Ho Bynum & Mary Halvorson), and they are beautifully recorded besides real good music. One day I'll take the trip there when I'm feeling adventurous- it's a bit of a trek from Brooklyn but not from Brookline! Quote
