Fats Sadi RIP

Sad news that the very fine Belgian vibist and percusionist Fats Sadi has recently passed away after a lengthy illness. Obit:-

I know him mainly from his work with Clark/Boland and also that excellent small-group recording he cut with Boland on Saba. RIP Mr Sadi.

I see he worked with Django at the end. Must've been the dates where he played electric: maligned, and unfairly so IMO, as as they are very nice. I'll listen for vibes next time.

Anyone know if he worked with Rene Thomas? Must've, it's a small community over there.

He was one of the greatest European jazz musicians, and one of the best vibists in the world. Sadly most of his records are hard to come by. Earlier this week two copies of the Blue Note 10" LP went for close to € 300 on ebay.

For some good footage of the man in action on both vibes and congas, the CBBB 'Live In Prague' DVD is recommended. Great to see him in tandem with Kenny Clarke, Jimmy Woode and Francy Boland.

Anyone got a spare copy of that nice SABA LP?

Will play some of his music again soon! I think I first took notice of him on those Vogue quartet sides with Martial Solal, very nice music!

I would have missed it myself Brownie but for a chance viewing of that "Times" obituary.

I think Belgians must have soul.

Percy France told me a funny story about Jimmy Woode, something about he couldn´t pay his hotel bill and, though everyone loved him, he had to be thrown out of his room finally. The next day someone saw him sleeping in the lobby.
