randyhersom Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) Here's what AMG lists, I have heard Live at Macalester College via eMusic. I suspect the list is not complete. 1993 Worlds Gazell 2001 Philadelphia Spirit in New York CIMP 2008 Live at Macalester College Porter 2008 Personal Testimony Porter 2008 Funny Funky Rib Crib Kindred Spirits Edited May 7, 2009 by randyhersom Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 He's on those Doug Hammond LPs on IDIBIB, Folks and Spaces. I had some private-label CDs/CD-Rs that Byard had sent me, can't find them right now, that were from the late 90s. Live at Macalester and Funny Funky are from the 1970s, as is half of Personal Testimony. Quote
jeffcrom Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) The Gazell is nice. It doesn't have a recording date, but the copyright is 1993. It was recorded in a suburb of Philly and presumably features some of Byard's regular collaborators, although the only name I recognize is percussionist Keno Speller. I also have a 1999 album, Byard Lancaster Trio, with Dave Gelting on bass and Jon Mueller on drums. It's a homemade CDr, but was commercially issued. It's Soultrane SRC 1004; the website listed on the back doesn't seem to exist anymore. I like this one a lot, even though it's more or less an EP - about 23 minutes long. I don't remember where I got it or how much I paid, but I think it was in some record store in Atlanta. Edited May 7, 2009 by jeffcrom Quote

paul secor Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Two with David Eyges on Music unlimited: The Arrow Crossroads Crossroads has been reissued on CD on Quixotic Records - available from Cadence: http://db.cadencebuilding.com/searchresult...;offset_count=0 Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Oh yeah, forgot about those Eyges records. They're not very good. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Also, I saw Lancaster with Ed Crockett, another bassist, and Harold E. Smith on drums a few years back. It was really good. Quote
jeffcrom Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Oh yeah, forgot about those Eyges records. They're not very good. To each his own. I've had Crossroads on vinyl for years and always found it sloppy, but very moving. Quote
paul secor Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Oh yeah, forgot about those Eyges records. They're not very good. To each his own. I've had Crossroads on vinyl for years and always found it sloppy, but very moving. I'm with Jeff. They're not desert island recordings for me, but I've enjoyed them and enjoyed hearing Lancaster & Eyges play live around the time the first LP was issued. Quote
l p Posted May 14, 2009 Author Report Posted May 14, 2009 thanks one that has not been mentioned above is Byard Lancaster & Mary Ann Lancaster "God be in us" 2005 Lancaster recording label Quote
randyhersom Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Do you feel the same way about Eyges with Arthur Blythe, CT? I've always enjoyed those sets, havent heard Byard with Eyges. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 That seems expensive for that title. I have God Be In Us and a couple of others... somewhere... Didn't mean to be heavy handed about the Eyges records on M.U. Just too sloppy/lazy for me, especially considering the Chiaroscuro LP with Whitecage and Boykins was real nice. Quote
