Pacific Jazz 78 rpm discog. list

info requested re Pacific Jazz 78 rpm releases....saw one on ebay (currently)-- what a suprise, ive never seen one of these in real life. is there a known documentaion of them?>

Not sure - I've found the Lord discography to be pretty incomplete and inaccurate in listing 78 and 45 releases. I have a Bud Shank Pacific Jazz 78 from the 3 trombones session as well as a few PJ 45s.

Perhaps the rarest among these is the Al Haig Trio PJ-626 as the 10" LP release was cancelled. I found a copy of this 78 from a Canadian seller on Ebay a few years back.

There are two other 78 releases, one using the Pacifica label and one released using a Drum City label.

Many of the alternate takes that have appeared on CD reissues were originally released on PJ 78s and 45s.

Jim

Thanks for the above info - great addition to my PJ database

What are the two titles from the Al Haig 78? (were they released on the Esoteric or Period 10" LP's).

How is progress on your Pacific Jazz text/discography - is it near publication

See my write up in Names & Numbers, AL HAIG ON PACIFIC JAZZ.

Jim

What's Names & Numbers - have done a search (google) & nothing significant comes up

Am I missing something simple here?

Also, has PJ 603 (Babasin/Haig - Saunders, Meanders / How About You) ever been released on CD (or LP)?

I think all the other 78's have had a CD release over the past 20 or so years

No, the Babasin has not been reissued. N&N is a discography journal based in the Netherlands. Drop me an email off board and I will send a copy to your snail address.

I've always thought Haig would make a worthy Mosaic project--especially his later stuff, but some of the earlier material too. I suggested it once. Not that they get many suggestions....

Suggested a Mosaic Select of his 50's material (Esoteric, Period, PJ etc) a couple of years back - If I can recall, Mike C cited licencing issues as a problem. The Andorrans (Fresh Sound etc) have made a partial attempt at this but it's never the same as a Mosaic job.
