ghost of miles Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Now that I'm no longer a football fan (sacrilege! I know, I know), it's simply a matter of popping a DVD in come late Thursday afternoon or early Thursday evening. This year we have the perennial T-Day favorite in two-disc, special edition splendour: THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD. If you're not watching football, what do you watch? (Mornings & late evenings I generally spend reading and listening to that crazy jass music.) Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Well, I know its going to be the Cowboys/Dolphins game in the late afternoon, but otherwise, we need to dig into the pile of Netflix DVDs, probably watch a classic spoof of the Cold War era, The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming!. ghost of miles Posted November 26, 2003 Author Report Posted November 26, 2003 (edited) More evidence that it's time for me to give it another viewing... Edited November 26, 2003 by ghost of miles Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 When I was a kid, aside from the never ending blue and silver with the old Cowboys playing on blue turf and the Lions playing on dirt, the highlight of every Thanksgiving was getting that good old tryptophan buzz and watching 'King Kong'. That's pre-cable! Quote
jacman Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 The Wizard of Oz, followed by A Charlie Brown Christmas. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 The Wizard of Oz, followed by A Charlie Brown Christmas. Both are classics -- great viewing on Thanksgiving evening, after too much food and drink. Although I'm not a big fan of watching Christmas movies in November (much too early), we'll probably be watching the all-time greatest Christmas movie ever made: "A Christmas Story". "Now it was serious: A Double Dog Dare. What else was left but a Triple Dare You and finally the coup de grace of all dares -- The sinister Triple Dog Dare". "Stuck. Stuck. Stuck! Stuck! STUCK! STUCK! STUCK! Arrrrrggghhhhh!" Quote
Noj Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Every Thanksgiving I used to watch The Twilight Zone marathon, usually not movies. One Thanksgiving, my brothers and I watched RESERVOIR DOGS--a good family film. Mom kept poking in from the kitchen saying "what on earth are you watching?" and "I don't like the language in this movie." We of course called her in to watch the cop get his ear cut off. Quote
jazzypaul Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 My favorite Thanksgiving day film is the same as my favorite Christmas, Birthday, Flag Day, Groundhog's Day, St. Patrick's Day and St. Swithen's Day movie: Rounders. Quote

BruceH Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 I rented Porco Roso, the cartoon by Miyazaki, and Le Samouri by Melville (a little something for the noir fans, meaning me). A Christmas Story is a big favorite around these parts, but we usually watch it on, well, Christmas. Damn, though, is there anything that hasn't been, or soon to be, released as a 2-disc DVD? Quote
ghost of miles Posted November 26, 2003 Author Report Posted November 26, 2003 Damn, though, is there anything that hasn't been, or soon to be, released as a 2-disc DVD? I believe there is a 2-DVD collector's edition documentary about this very phenomenon coming out next month. B) Quote

undergroundagent Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 "Uncle Buck" would be my choice, but what do I know?!?! I'm Canadian, and our Thanksgiving was weeks ago. Quote

catesta Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 (edited) "Uncle Buck" Hell yeah, good one. I enjoy just about anything with Eastwood or John Wayne on T-Day. It's easy to catch either one or both of them on TNT or TBS, marathon style of course. Another couple favorites of mine, Christmas Vacation, and as Greg just pointed out, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, both true Holiday classics. "Those aren't pillows!"
