clifford_thornton Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 The 2009 Kwanzaa stamp design has been released. I'm not one for stamp collecting, but when I was at the PO the other day and saw a sign for the "Lloyd McNeill" design I got pumped - his Asha LPs are very rare and intriguing 1970s soul-jazz offerings. Great to see his name in the popular consciousness. Perhaps our DC board members have some insight; he is quite active, apparently, on the DC cultural scene today. Quote
mikeweil Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 It's a shame that one of the most original jazz flutists on the scene had to release his albums himself. I have most of them, as hard as they were to find, and love them all. I first heard Asha, his debut LP on AFN radio, and fell in love with his music instantly. A double talent - his paintings are great. http://www.lloydmcneill.com/ Quote
seeline Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Wow - great idea for a thread! And I really like his stamp design. I'd been thinking about him due to BFT #69... Quote
Bright Moments Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 i recommend his "washington suite" Quote
Stefan Wood Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 If Lloyd McNeill is active in DC, he's not making himself known, as I have not seen nor heard of him in the local jazz scene. Quote
GA Russell Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 I remember well seeing him in Sept. of '68 in DC. I remember that Steve Novosel was on bass. Great jazz with something of a rock beat. Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) His website makes no mention of his musical endeavors. Edit: Oh yes he does. Edited January 28, 2010 by Hoppy T. Frog Quote
