As a person who more or less dislikes funk/soul jazz and especially dislikes organ jazz (with the stereotypical exceptions-- Larry Young, some John Patton, Baby Face Willette's Blue Notes), would I enjoy this set? I see that there is organ on every session, but it also seems like Braith takes the music a bit more outside, and the inclusion of Grant Green interests me further as I especially enjoy his collaborations with Larry Young.

Granted, I'll probably get it anyways, but I would still like to get some opinions.

Yeah, Braith goes out but through a different door than the other guys use, so it's hard to say if you'll like it or not. I have it but like his playing on(and the general vibe of)john Patton's Blue John better, but then I LOVE grease...

I like soul jazz but never cared for him. I think he's been discussed extensively here if you do a search.

Like Brad I like soul jazz but somehow Braith doesn't do too much for me. I'm not parting with the Blue Notes though.

I didn't care for his sound at first, be he grew on me. Now I like him a lot - you have to respect him as a musician.

Get the set, Colin. It won't cost you much.

I love the last track on the first session. It is a long, slow groove.

The collection gets more interesting after the first session.

As someone else said, his work on John Patton's "Blue John" is very good. That's my favorite Braith session.

What sort of money do these normally fetch, lads? (Not promising to sell mine y'know. One moderately careful owner from new.)

Lots of 'Extensions' here to give an indication.

I think mine cost about a tenner - NY USA vinyl pretty good but sleeve not so good.

I think I have a couple of LPs with Dobells 45/- stickers on their top RH corners :)

£10-ish this decade probably works out to 1/2d back in the old days !

Depends - at just over 2 quid a pint of beer (last year), you could have about five for a tenner. Back in the day, five pints would have cost about 5/5d. But a tenner now only gets you 1 LP (new in the shops) and an LP cost 32/- back in the day.

There is no certainty at all in economics :g

'Don't mention the war. I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it.'

Grrr! You don't like funk, soul or organ? I'll see you outside, lol.

Dobells! That sure brings back some memories. There was also a mail-order place in New Cross that for years had sensational bargains. I even trekked all the way out there on one visit to London.

Beer in the U.K. in 2009 tends to be a lot more than "just over two quid", especially in the clubs. :( Fortunately, Lidl's has Shepherd Neame real ales for only one pound on sale.

Really? :rhappy: All previous visits to that store and Aldi have resulted in me coming out with absolutely nothing worth buying. I'll take a look..

Strange! I can usually find something worth buying in Lidl.
