bebopbob
Is there any news about a reissue of Dexter Gordon's Nights At the Keystone recorded in the late 1970's? I thought I read somewhere that this was a possible Mosaic project.
alejo
No news yet, but I would be very happy if this became a reality. Didn’t Blue Note/EMI originally release the concerts on three cds? This would make an excellent Mosaic Select! I just sent Mosaic an e-mail regarding this issue--hope to hear back form them soon.
Tjazz
Could Mosaic sell 5000 of these sets?
jlhoots
They could sell me one.
DrJ
I would think Dexter Gordon typically sells at least as well as many of the artists who've gotten the Select treatment so far, and probably far better...this makes great sense. My only thought is that he is well-known and sells well enough that they may just decide to reissue these on the BN label rather than through Mosaic...either way, hope Malcom Addey is asked to do the remastering! alejo
Great news! I just received a response from Mosaic, and it looks like this material will be issued as a Mosaic Select in late 2004. $39 US sure beats the hell out of $300 US on ebay–and the money goes straight to Mosaic. Tjazz
$39 US sure beats the hell out of $300 US on ebay The last set went for about $75 on ebay.
alejo
These discs have gone for more than $75 US on ebay in the past. Anyways, $39 US is better than $75 US in my opinion. Also, the licensing agreements on many Mosaic sets run out well before they sell the pre-determined limited edition run. An example of this is the Woody Shaw set. So, while it would be nice for Mosaic if they sold 5,000 or 10,000 copies of each set, this doesn’t necessarily determine what they release. BFrank
Anybody know when this was recorded? I saw him at the Keystone in December 1977.
Brad
Great news indeed. I have two of the three but I'm sure they will all sound better as a Select. Something to look forward to.
Chuck Nessa
If you don't have the SteepleChase "Swiss Nights", get these first. Finer Dex!

Brad
I'd have to agree with Chuck on Swiss Nights. I prefer these somewhat more than the Nights at the Keystone. There's probably more interest in these, however, just because they've been so hard to get.
BFrank
Thanks Alfred. I'm pretty sure it was the same quartet, though: George Cables (p), Rufus Reid (B], Eddie Gladden (d). Edited January 5, 2004 by BFrank
Tom Storer
the licensing agreements on many Mosaic sets run out well before they sell the pre-determined limited edition run. Huh. Does that mean when the time's up they can't sell any more? If so they should have a "Time's Almost Up" page as well as a "Running Low" page.
